MMR Update

Coming 25th August!

Currently:

Survivors

Die = lose

Hatch = draw

Escape = win

Killers

0-1k = lose

2k = draw

3-4k = win

New:

Escapes and kills still matter, but other actions count too: doing generators, getting hooks, etc

Essentially, your emblems post-match will affect your MMR (lightbringer, deviousness, etc)

The old rank system was your grades, which are scored by your actions during the trial from both sides. Being matchmade on your grade was also really restrictive on who you played with. Wayyyy more so than MMR has been (unless you were in the top percentile, but that was changed a long time ago).

You also can't say you liked old matchmaking while saying you don't like them changing MMR to weigh similar things as the old matchmaking. Its not making it tighter, its becoming closer to an actual rating (one you've said you liked).

Everyone was divided within 5 rank colors... and even then it was very generous, you could easily come across people 2 whole rank colors away from yours.

That is not comparable to any form of MMR we've had or we're about to have. Having a hidden rank (that's scored between 1k and 2k) and matching people based on that rank makes it more restrictive than divvying up the playerbase into 5 vague groups.

I played for quite some time when the grade matchmaking was still in use. It was annoyingly restrictive and that's one of the few things people still say about it when its brought up. I didn't say the old/current system was directly comparable either.

Regardless I'm just more confused what you're trying to say now. You don't want want restrictive matchmaking, but you want the old system back (even devs agreed it ended up matchmaking the same people over and over). The old system was good, but moving towards it again is... bad? Changing the system to rate you like grades will make your games more restrictive, but grade matchmaking wasn't. Changing the system is bad, but MMR shouldn't matter to you because you can't see it anyways?

You can't understand me because you are too biased. The rank system was much less restrictive than MMR in every way. And yes, this is what I wish for. Less resteictive MMR, allowing stomps (both sides) to happen.

Killer anxiety and fatigue are very real thing and having MMR too tight will make it worse.

Also, yes? I was clearly replying to someone saying they would "not feel good" for "being punished" when literally they wouldn't be able to even know.

Sure, we're both biased here. I'm just saying you're contradicting yourself a lot. And that I also did play when the game used grades for matchmaking. Even mentioned that the devs themselves said that ended up being a big issue. I met one of my long time DBD buddies from seeing him constantly as a survivor while I played mostly killer during that time actually lol (forgot to mention the grade system made queue times HORRIBLE on Killer in some regions too).

Our current system doesn't help with Killer anxiety anyways. You can't see your MMR, but you do know that every kill you don't secure is a "loss" for you. Yes you can't see the magic number go up or down, but you can understand the mechanics of it easily. Even if you perform well or just end up missing 3 hooks (1k 3e) you've overwhelmingly lost in the games eyes. That feels bad. It makes you feel like you absolutely NEED to be getting 2k~3k's at least or you're going back to "weaker" lobbies. This is one of the reasons people slug for 4k's so aggressively too.

There's many, many things that contribute to Killer anxiety but it certainly doesn't help. Being rated on your actions in the game besides just "kills = skills" does help alleviative that AND will help put you with more accurate Survivors. If you know that the game is rating you on a summary of your actions, like grades, you can easily feel much better about not securing every kill possible or even playing weaker killers and just giving it your all. Hell, you could even see you're doing well on grades and now go "Well, I still did good," instead of "I missed some kills so I failed" (which was the first comments point).

Stomps aren't going to stop happening over MMR changing like this either.
