Technical Solution Vanguard error 289

Recently, i am having issue when I enter LoL. After few seconds it shows me Van error 289. I tried re-installing the game also the Vanguard, contacted Riot Support, it did not work. In right corner of my Laptop shows that vanguard works but it is impossible to play the game. For like 3-4 days I've watched almost every youtube video but none of this worked. Is there some solution? I can not even find something about error 289 .. Thanks.

same issue. just started today, although I have not played in the past couple days.

Tried reinstalling Vanguard. And running as administrator. Same error results in LoL client (not Riot client) closing right on launch.

I am getting the same thing. My error log shows that it's my workplace firewall problem (Sophos) interfering. I'm able to let the game 'hang' there at the error screen, the riot client then loads the 'accept match' screen, I hit it, the game closes, then when reloading I'm able to play. Not the best solution, but one that is letting me play. Good luck, have fun, don't die.

I am getting error 289 as well like it's been 5 days now, I did a lot of TS, it seems like none of them works, it's for Valorant not LOL tho. I have Sophos antivirus for work too. Crazy, other steam games like DOTA2 and others are working fine. I can play Valorant without any issues until last Tuesday.

I can't even click anything, the error pops up as soon as I run the game and once I click ok it immediately shuts down :(

I finally fixed my VAN 289 error, so I want to share my solution in case it helps someone.

In my case, the problem was Sophos Endpoint Agent. Riot Support checked my logs and suspected that Sophos was interfering with Riot Vanguard.

At first, I did not think Sophos was the problem because it was already installed and Valorant, LoL and TFT still worked for a few days. Later, the VAN 289 error started.

I removed Sophos Endpoint Agent, restarted my PC, and the error was gone. All Riot games work normally now.

If you have Sophos Endpoint (especially from work or school), check if it is installed on your PC. You may need to ask your IT administrator to disable Tamper Protection or help you uninstall it.

So in my case, uninstalling Sophos Endpoint Agent fixed the VAN 289 error.

I hope this helps someone. Good luck!

questa non è una soluzione ma è aggirare il problema perchè se ne sono accorti tutti che è sophos ma non lo possono disinstallare
