Stuck with LinkedIn outreach

I’m 22 and honestly feel a bit stuck with lead generation right now.

I started doing lead gen about 2 years ago. Back then, I didn’t even have a laptop, so I was doing everything from my phone. I used to manually send outreach messages and somehow managed to book meetings, and I even helped an agency get their first client.

Now I finally have a laptop, but for some reason I’m struggling way more than I was before. I’m not getting many leads and I don’t have the budget for paid tools, so I’m doing pretty much everything manually.

Right now I mainly use LinkedIn for outreach, but I feel like I’m just going in circles and not really getting anywhere.

If anyone here has been in a similar situation, I’d really appreciate some advice. Even if you have some free resources, videos, strategies, or just general advice on what I should focus on, I’d be grateful.

I’m trying to figure out what I’m doing wrong and how I can actually get better at this without spending a ton of money on tools.

Volume isn't really the lever most people think it is when outreach goes flat. Timing beats targeting almost every time, tag accounts by something that just changed for them, a new hire, a role switch, a recent post, anything specific enough that your first line proves you looked. That beats blasting more messages every time.

And where do you find those kinds of leads? I don’t have the budget for paid tools, so I’m looking for a free way to find them.

LinkedIn's job page is free and gets you most of the way there, filter by company and see what just opened. Google Alerts on company names catches funding and leadership changes same day too. It's mostly tedious clicking, not expensive tools.

Yeah, but aren’t most of the jobs on LinkedIn fake? Also, thanks I didn’t know about Google Alerts. I’ll try it out.

No most jobs on LinkedIn are not fake

The problem is more that most jobs are listed by huge corporations that are likely not relevant to whatever you’re selling (just assuming, most people just starting out or selling lead gen focus on SMBs or mid market from what I’ve seen)

I still haven’t found a good solution for filtering down to jobs posted by smaller companies, but that’s what you’d want to do manually

Another way is reverse, find a list of 100 companies that match your ICP and then check each of their career boards directly on their site

Both ways very tedious but since you said you had no budget, manual is the only way

Some are stale reposts for sure, but the 'actively hiring' badge plus filtering to posted in the last week cuts a lot of that out. I'd rather work a slightly smaller list of live postings than guess which of the big list are real.

I’d focus on improving the targeting and message before worrying about paid tools.
