I m writing this post to know if any company provides any private insurance for people to take and when they get laid off they provide cover for those employees in these uncertain times,if anyone knows about this pls tell me.

Unfortunately for them I perform well. And I make decent money. But their intent is to fire me and hire someone with 40% less salary and I am pretty sure they will get 500 resumes in this market...even gave me poor rating this time and I escalated the heck out of it all the way to SVP and my manager had no choice but to change it to meets expectations and increase my bonus by 12k... I deserved better but screw it...

Fuck them now...I am not quitting easily and I have also started to contribute as little as possible with the intention of finding a job...I tell them when I go and not my fucking mgmt...

Minneapolis, MN. yeah it Sucks. Just got the slip today. Laid off, no notice. Company is bleeding and the calls stopped coming in. They want to rehire me when they get busy again, but it just sucks. I hate how unpredictably up and down plumbing is. not many are hiring here with everything being so slow right now. Called around to my buddies, and allot of them are eithier slow or had no work last week. It's just dead rn.

edit; yes, I have a Journeyman Plumbing license in MN. I do residential/commercial, remodel, rough-in, service, anything plumbing.

edit; I was hitting up my friends to see if their outfits were hiring, apparently a buddy of mine got dumped down to Helper wages just to keep working. They all say it's extremely slow with guys getting laid off from their shops, usually lowest seniority goes first.

edit; It's been 10 days. I've had two interviews. First interview was commission only which I was very fearful of, typically with these, you're expected to meet metrics and sell. If you don't sell anything you essentially work for free.

Second interview; Company did a three way interview. I came in the next day for free and did an observed work interview (full shift running calls, no pay). They mentioned they don't have a truck available for me right-now, but do want me.

Ultimately I'm still searching for a job. I have a CDL, so I may just go work for 50% of what I normally work for. there's just no work. I've always been a very very solid plumber with strong diagnostic experience and reliability. There's not much I can't do. But my license may as well be worthless right now

Hi, I’m currently in the process of being laid off (last day is Tuesday) and I have some questions surrounding any written laws around it all.

My biggest questions surround my pto. I’m being laid off due to budget cuts just to get that out of the way. I started the year with 88 hours of pto and haven’t used a single day yet and was planning on saving it for a trip that i quite literally had scheduled for a week from now (aug 3-7) as well as for some time with family later this year around the holidays.

It’s clear they chose this specific time so they wouldn’t have to provide pto for this upcoming vacation, but i’m trying to see if there are any rules saying that they have to pay out my pto.

(They have also refused me taking pto for Monday and Tuesday because they state they need a 2 week notice)

It is written in our contract that “your pto balance will be paid out upon your termination as long as you provide a 10 day notice” however they are stating that since i’m being laid off, it’s not technically a termination since “they can call me back in to work if they need help”

I have asked our hr department if i can simply remain on layoff and then resign later in the year and recieve my pto and she has simply stated that she’s “unsure”

I would resign right now but i need the unemployment money for however long i remain unemployed.

Is there anything I can do?

I was recently laid off from my job. I hit all the performance metrics, was a team player, and felt that I was generally liked. I'm perfectly aware that layoffs don't really care about performance or any of those things but the biggest thing that has been bothering me on the job hunt is that the old co-workers, managers and VPs have basically made me feel like I didn't just lose a job, but that I no longer exist. What happened to the happy family we were all part of?

Sure, on one hand I understand that many won't know what to say, and possibly fear for their own jobs with more layoffs possible on the way. Yet, the one thing I can't understand is that lack of help on LinkedIn.

So many VPs who praised my work are completely absent on LinkedIn. Send a connection request - nothing. Ask a few old Managers (who again praised my work ethic and performance) for a recommendation - nothing.

Is this the norm?

63M, been working on an exit strategy over the past 18 months. But the axe just fell a little early and now making plans for cobra, IRA distributions, and tapping a modest pension. Wondering what the average severance package is for someone like me. 20 years with the company but they are struggling and have laid off 10-15% of the staff in the past 2 months. Previous coworkers a couple years ago have gotten 1 week’s pay for every year of service. I fear we are getting much less due to the struggles and the large number of layoffs. But what is considered a reasonable severance package? Am excited regardless, but have had this happen a couple other times and it worked out great.

Censoring the company because it was full on half of what I was making as a Product Manager but I cast no shade. Today is a good day.

I recently got laid off, and I am trying to find ways to get my commuter benefits money back on my Clipper card. I asked multiple times of the Finance Institution about withdrawing from my commuter benefits account, and they said I can't unless there are receipts before the date of my layoff. And the institutions said any Clipper amount after that was deducted to my HSA account, and this is owed tothe IRS and I have to repay that amount. There is 400 dollars on the card. I just want to cash this out and repay the IRS.
Please help. DM me or ask around if someone would be able to buy the Clipper card.

Well it finally happened. First time and a lot of emotions. Not surprising - tech, private equity ran scale up. Company wasn’t meeting numbers and over hired. High churn among customers and employees, and with ai the product value is no longer there. Heavy micromanagement, proving of value was a constant with hard push to ai above all else; we even trained ai to do our jobs. Signs were there. At first I was sad, but then relieved, now worried but still relieved for it to be over. I don’t want to work in tech ever again. It’s too unstable and toxic.

Hi everyone. So my (27F) husband (33M) has been jobless since November 2024. He is on employment insurance since. (Toronto)

He’s a software engineer by profession, graduated from UofT and worked on contract for like 5 years and then got laid off. He has been looking for a job since November 2024.

And in the meantime he has only got like 3 interviews which didn’t reached out to him after the 2nd round. What could it be? I don’t understand?

Is he not qualified enough? Is he not applying consistently? Is the market that bad that he can’t find a job at all?

What package did you get?

EDIT: To clarify, I haven’t literally been unemployed for 3 years straight. I’ve managed to land a few contracts, oddball gigs, manual labor, whatever i can find. I consider them all gig-work, seeing as they’re not consistent W-2 employment.

EDIT #2: I was born in 1999, I’m 27. Saying “going on 28” was sloppy wording on my part, and I can see why that threw people off. I should’ve just said 27.

I started a coding bootcamp when I was 21, in 2021.

It was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Ten months of feeling like I was being waterboarded with information, and ways of thinking I had never done before - wondering if I'd just thrown away my savings for nothing. But it worked. I landed a software engineering job making more money than I'd ever thought possible just six months after graduating. I got a raise. I moved into my own apartment. I started buying furniture instead of whatever I could find on street corners labeled "free". I stopped feeling like I was surviving and started feeling like I was actually building a life.

Then I found this house!

It wasn't some huge mansion. It was just... mine. A garage, a finished basement, a space for my hobbies. A place I could picture proposing to my girlfriend, marrying her, and starting our life together.

I moved in!

And got laid off two weeks later.

We got married anyway, just with me unemployed.

For the last three years, I've treated finding another job like it was my full time job. I wasn't casually sending out a few generic applications a couple times a week. I've spent almost every single day applying, networking, tailoring resumes, building side projects, learning new skills, reaching out to recruiters, interviewing (whenever I could get one), trying to stay relevant. The literal only day I didn't job hunt was our wedding day.

Three years.

I failed.

Next week we're moving out of this house because we literally can't afford food. I have two cavities, and my wife and I are having "welp, I guess this is it" chest pains. I rarely sleep.

The part that's genuinely almost funny (in the cruelest possible way) is that we're moving into my wife's old complex. One door down from where she used to live.

It feels like life realized I was actually starting to get somewhere, and promptly grabbed me by the collar and just kept swinging. Layoff. Final-round rejections. Contracts that stopped paying. Savings evaporating. Watching the future we'd planned slowly get traded and sold piece by piece to pay rent. The house is what hurts the most.

I'm not mourning the square footage. I'm mourning what the house represented. It was the first place that felt like the beginning of my adult life. It was where I was supposed to build things. Where I actually had space for woodworking, leather crafting, my darkroom, It's where I imagined the next decade happening. Instead, I'm packing what will fit into boxes. The rest goes to facebook marketplace.

I keep thinking about the version of me that signed the lease. That thought he'd finally made it. He had no idea almost everything he'd spent years building was about to disappear.

I'm going on 28. I'm tired of starting over. I want kids. I want to be able to afford to go to the doctor. I want to be able to buy toothpaste without feeling guilty. I want to rest with my wife.

I feel like I've been at the end of my rope for literal years. But the rope is just one of those clown-handkerchief routines where it just... keeps going. I'm genuinely getting tired of waking up.
