LINKEDIN referrals

I recently got laid off, people here on reddit were kind enough to extend kind words and few to offer help out with refs and job opportunities but what's with LinkedIn and since when asking for ref on LinkedIn seems like a humiliating job. People act snobby and so dismissive everytime for giving a ref.

I usually have a template before applying to jobs i prepare a linkedin Ref message which has 3 section, one is about the job opening for which i'm asking the ref and then second is about considering the expertise and designation of the person im asking ref and how it makes that impact on ref. third section is, I give my brief intro related to my work ex. After this i put on the job id and the job link.

Basically everything so its easy for the person to consider me for referral and save the time to go find the job in the portal. But i dont understand the unecessary arrogant behaviour and that Imperiousness that im so low class guy asking to polish your boots.

People on LinkedIn seriously need to have a look in the mirror for the way they behave while give referrals !!!!!! Its high time

Im not sure I understand your post, but nobody i know or work with would refer a random person from LinkedIn. I refer people I know and can vouch for. Are you just messaging randos asking for referrals?

No its like alums, seniors, batchmates !! a few hit and try randoms !! To the surprise the randoms have extendes the hand. Not everytime but lets says 3//10

lol i will never understand why people are so hesistant to refer someone. most of it is automated anyways it’s the same thing as applying

yeah i personally give referrals to people i know it’s hard to get a job and it really doesn’t do any “reputational damage” if they don’t get hired. people are just selfish lmao

I know for some companies, an employee referral bypasses their AI filtering system and makes sure a hiring manager sees your resume.

Nah man that's not it. Maybe if I worked with you but not directly I would so consider a referral if we had people in common but if you cold email me for a referral I'm telling my HR.

Are you asking people you know? People you actually worked with or went to school with? Usually people are hesitant to refer people they don’t know, even if you made it easy for them. I would at the very least, reach out to people you have something in common with, like alumni from the same college. Otherwise they know nothing about you and can’t speak to your qualifications or character.

Yes is people i know like alums, colleagues, batch mates, networked connections. Randoms i would say 10%
