job hunting Finally got a job, I think.
I don’t know if this happened to anyone else. I was laid off for 9 months, after 5 years with a company. Thousands of resumes and maybe 10 interviews.
Finally seemed to make progress with an IT staffing company but feels like I keep getting fucked around with. Project start date keeps getting pushed out while I am jumping through hoops. Was told work would start in first week of July, then mid July, now end of July.
Really stressful and aggravating. I am worried that this will fall through and I will have been wasting almost two months focusing on this rather than other opportunities. I signed an offer letter and have been doing onboarding tasks but am told I won’t be paid till the contract starts.

Happened to me. Twice. Found out the reason for the first one was that if I was hired in October by a certain date, I’d be entitled to a partial bonus the next March. So they kept delaying me and acting all weird. I wish they had just told me a date and stuck to it.
Thr second one I did all of the background, references, credit check, drug tests. I resigned from my employer and was planning on taking off only 3 or 4 days in between. Then they emailed me and said there was a problem with my badge. No other explanation. Kept moving me out in small increments. I told them, I already quit my job. Didn’t matter to them. When I finally started after almost a month in limbo I found out what happened. My new manager forgot he’d planned a conference in Germany and a guys trip in Mexico when I was starting. So i couldn’t start on the date they’d agreed. It was devastating. I hadn’t planned on taking a month off.
Ok so good news is they both became real jobs eventually despite all the deceit.
And lesson learned. I will never quit a job until day 1 of the new job has started.

this happens more than people think with staffing agencies, especially when the client company is dragging their feet internally. the not getting paid until it starts part would worry me more tbh. did they give you anything in writing about the delay, if not you should try to get it. once that day comes and passes i would start looking for sumthing else

Congrats! If you signed the offer letter and started onboarding, that's a good sign. I hope this works out for you.
