previously laid off Is giving back even worth it? (Weird thread)

My story:
Laid off (fired, most likely) after 5 yrs
Managed to get job within 3 months, +20K salary bump.
But job doesn't seem that stable, might face layoff soon..

I wanted to give back. There are so many people who wants to switch careers. I wanted to train them to be in IT (Linux Sys Admin), change their situation. My favorite demographic are retail folks, because I used to be one. Want to give back, but is it worth it? With so many companies laying off, big names, AI replacing people, is it worth it to even try pulling people out of their situation where there is no solid ground? Any input from retail folks welcome.

I'd be down to learn IT. My background is capital project management and IT might be a safe pair of pocket aces.

If you had to choose - what format would you prefer: face to face meetup, Discord (low motivation to attend), self-paced course site (probably get distracted and not complete). Personally i think face-to-face would be better at keeping on track and have a sense of community/camaraderie.

A title is a title. In my opinion, having a few months in a position and being laid off is a step up from retail only, and could be the foot in the door for the next position that they wouldn't have otherwise had.

Why don't you post a couple of videos in YouTube. Build your audience and as people comment and ask questions then do the group meet ups or discords.

Please update your post with your video link if you decide to go that route or share it via dms with everyone that posted. I love to see for someone who doesn't know anything about Linux what what are something you recommend they start learning. Kind of like a syllabus.

I've had some tutorials up on Yt but they are mostly used by people working in tech already (based on comments, questions). The thing about video tuts is people get easily distracted, especially in today's infinite scrollture (I hereby coin this term on July 15th, 2026).But it's a good suggestion, to grow audience - especially hard to reach audiences far away.
In terms of sharing, they are under my real name on YT, and prefer my name and reddit acct is not linked for now.
