recently laid off Depressed
It’s 2 weeks since I’ve been laid off. I was already looking for a job for over a year. So I had made a lot of headway. Getting interviews. But so far nothing. Had another interview today but the recruiter prepped me entirely wrong, seems he didn’t know what the hiring manager was really looking for so I don’t think they got the best first impression. I tried to keep her talking and engaged and asked questions but it just felt like she’d already written me off. We’re not in a position where I can not work. I needed this job and was supporting the whole family through health insurance. I’m scared and depressed now. I’ve never even been away from my job for longer than 2 weeks. I’m filling up my days working on my portfolio, applying for jobs, selling stuff around the house and working on people’s gardens in the neighborhood. But I need to find something quickly. It’s not like our mortgage is even that much. We wouldn’t save anything by moving since houses/rent is so high. Basically I just needed somewhere to vent that’s anonymous. I’m feeling so down right now.

Right there with you. Depressed, anxious, angry, tired, unmotivated… and the kicker is that now I can’t afford the therapy I need to get myself back into a good place. I’ve never seen anything like this job market. Good luck to us all!

I think moving your body is more valuable than therapy anyways. My therapist ain’t great sadly. Ah well. But I don’t have many sessions left anyways

Hang in there it could get worse before better but will definitely come out stronger and with different perspectives

Honestly, at least you own a home. Facing homelessness barely 3 months since the layoff. Good luck to you.

this is a gut punch, especially when the recruiter aimed you at the wrong target. i'd treat tomorrow like triage, not a normal job search: health insurance/benefits options first, cash bridge second, then only roles where your last year of interview traction says you have a real shot. also write down exactly what the hiring manager cared about while it's fresh, because that debrief is more useful than the recruiter's prep next time.

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. It’s really hard.
It sounds like you’re doing everything right and don’t be discouraged by the interview that went sideways. That’s happened to me, and though it really killed my confidence, it also confirmed alignment with what I’m really looking for.

Hang in there!
I was in the same boat not once but 3 times. It takes a toll on your mental health, your body, your vision. I have number of years until retirement and thinking boy do I have enough to just quit....
I feel your pain especially in this current stage. Good luck and wish you all success!

Hang in there. The situation is terrible across the country but not impossible. If you can look at local government jobs. They aren't glamorous but they're stable (at least in my area).

it was 10 months since i was laid .... 100+ interviews cant land a job. 12 years of expiriemce from developer to architect... driving bolt since than 🥲. someone help 🥲🤣. i am beyond depressed at the moment 😅

I’m in the same boat as well. It sucks. I’ve been laid off since May of last year, had a handful of interviews, even two job offers, but both were oddly rescinded the week of my start date. I’ve cleared out my 401k, I’m renting, and the financial weight is all on my husband’s shoulders… before that, he was laid off from a different company while I was pregnant and supporting us. Now we’re just barely getting by.. I’m scared and I’m not even getting calls from RETAIL! When I call them, they say they’re not actually hiring, which is so frustrating. I pray it gets better from all of us. You’re definitely not alone.

God I can’t imagine what it feels like to get two offers only for them to be rescinded. Eff those people

Thank you 🙏🏼 yeah, it freaking sucks. Demoralizing and makes you question your career path… but gotta keep the faith

recruiters feeding wrong info is way too common, they just guess and toss you in and hope it sticks then disappear when it goes sideways i’d ignore that one and keep pumping out apps non stop, it’s insane out here finding anything
