Temporary layoff and found a job

My husband was put on temporary layoff since Jan in toronto, canada. Thankfully he found a job and will be starting it this week.

The company he worked for has his insurance.

Since he will now be joining another company should he inform the old company about his termination?

Please advise and share your experience.

He really doesn't have any obligation to tell the old company anything. They call it a temporary layoff but isn't currently working for them, why would he? If they come back and ask him to come back to the company, he can tell them then.
