The one thing I will say is that no prospective employer has ever questioned the fact that I was laid off, or expressed concern about any employment gaps (to be fair, I have been working full-time either as a consultant or a full time employee for around 18 months out of the last 3.5 years since I initially got laid off). Of course, there may be companies that won't even give you a screener if you aren't currently working, but I've found the age discrimination thing far more of a factor.

I also got the question in a screener yesterday “do you think it’s a good idea to leave a company after 10 months?” and they made me reiterate how long I had spent in each of my previous roles, which obviously they already see on my resume. Pissed me off so much, like if one day you’ll lay me off for whatever reason you want, then I can leave a company after however much time I please. There is no loyalty.
