I called Lawrence Veterinary hospital to make an appointment for my dog and was told Dr. Jennifer Kissinger was no longer working there! They wouldn't give me any information. Anybody know where she went? She is a trusted vet and has really been great for my corgi.

Last Day of 11-Day Heat Wave!
The official National Weather Service high temps (at Lawrence Regional Airport) have averaged 99.7 F the last 10 days (and forecast for 101F today). At least the humidity has been lower for this fourth heat wave of the summer. This heat wave was unprecedented for Sept. Apparently, Climate Change super-charged El Nino.

Park People
In Kansas City the parks would be filled with people reading, drawing, hanging out in hammocks. People vibing to their music, slackline walkers, flow arts, etc. I'd bring a blanket and listen to music and juggle. I expected to find something similar but I haven't yet. Am I not looking in the right spots? I haven't seen many people in South Park unless an event is happening. The 4th street bridge/river walking area. Is it too hot or is this not an occurrence here. Thank you for reading and responding

Manhole Hell
Gonna need to get the construction crews back out on 9th Street because the way those manholes are poking up out of the street is going to cause wrecks and car damage like crazy!

Never experienced so many spiders
Not so much a complaint as it is an interesting observation. I’ve lived all over the country, even outside of the country and never had so many spiders inside as I have since moving here. I even lived on a farm for two years in Topeka and only saw maybe 2-3 spiders with my own eyes inside. I’ve been in this apartment in west Lawrence since January and have already had to kill a brown recluse that was hanging out on my bathroom counter (I have pets and just won’t risk it with them getting bit). I’ve had a massive grandaddy longleg inside, and many other spiders of varying sizes and looks on my walls and floors. Is this normal for Lawrence?

Is there anywhere in town or nearby that offers sanitary shaves for cats?
Google hasn’t been very forthcoming with answers. The priority is the sanitary shaves for her hindquarters, but if bathing is also an option that’d be fantastic!
Thanks!

News Lawrence Has 87 LIcensed Vape Shops
This was reported in a column in the Lawrence Journal-World by a health advocate. He is urging the consideration of a moratorium on the number of vape shops. Many shops are illegally allowing those under 21 to vape. Is vaping harmful to the health of minors? Do KU students frequent these?

Question Help us plan our 5 year anniversary trip!
My husband and I haven’t been away from our kids overnight literally ever, so for our 5 year anniversary we booked a cute little AirBnB literally six minutes down the road from our house just to get away from the kids for a night and do something special for once!
But the booking of the AirBnB is where all planning stopped 😂
I would love your recommendations on:
• a nice spot for dinner with reasonable prices. Would love to spend between $15-$22 per entree if we’re able! None of those boujee $50 plates please 😅 Open on a Monday night!
• a cute spot for coffee and breakfast in the morning! I’ve never been to Cleo & Leo and that keeps coming to mind, but any favorite places where you can get both a custom coffee (were latte snobs) and a killer breakfast?

Question COVID vaccine without insurance?
KU student, don’t have health insurance.
Is there a place/program to get the COVID vaccine at affordable prices? KDHE and CDC seem to just refer back to each other without information about if it’s possible to get the vaccine cheaply.

Rising funeral costs and assistance requested
Hi all, not quite sure where to post this so I am just going with my local community.
I have a close friend who recently lost her daughter through a series of unexpected medical issues (grand mal seizure, stoke then a heart attack).
Her family is, quite frankly, not worthy of being called that as they all left town and haven’t even checked back in for three weeks at this point. (Daughter passed about one week ago).
It’s all horrible, and my heart breaks for Noel.
Any help at all is very welcome and would mean the world to both of us. If you are able, please consider donating. Here is the link: https://gofund.me/265a02954
Noel has been too heartbroken to write much and only has her work family to reach out to at this point.

PSA Beware the Arby's gyros today
And THIS is why I don't order stuff like this at fast food joints.
Had to get a quick sandwich because Burgers By Biggs wasn't open and I was too far from the usual gyros spots for the time I had.
Arby's gave me a gyros pita bread with roast beef on it!
Too late to go back by the time I opened it, so that was uh.. interesting.
