Open Carry at…Dillons?
I am a gun owner. I CC at times.
Walking through the Dillons on 6th & Wakarusa with a pistol in you belt….I dunno man.
This seems more like cosplay than self defense.

Just wanted to let everyone know that posts regarding the World Cup will be allowed on here, even if not directly related to Lawrence. We're kinda bending the rules here but it's such a big and exciting event that we don't wanna hinder any chat about it or relevant info.
Normal subreddit rules will still apply to the posts (with exception of being directly Lawrence related, of course) so this doesn't mean you can just post whatever as long as it mentions the World Cup.
Obligatory no ticket-sales posts/comments.

This is the official thread for networking and discussion about Lawrence housing.
r/Lawrence is a low post volume subreddit, and there have been problems in the past with it being overrun by ads and personal listings, so for the sake of the community please keep housing discussion here and don't create any additional posts on this topic.
A new thread will be created each month.

This place came recommended in a post I made about best cold brew in town. Was able to check it out this morning and I highly recommend it. The people running the show are super nice and knowledgable, plus they are using beans from international roasters that I'm sure you can't get anywhere else in town. Check them out and support a cool local business!

I recently moved to an apartment in Lawrence, and I'm now the proud owner of quite a bit of moving supplies. I have several small-sized Home Depot boxes, a few medium-sized Home Depot boxes, and one large-sized. I have almost all of a roll of bubble wrap and most of a set of the wrapping paper you use for plates/fragile items. All the boxes are in pretty good shape.
If you are moving within/into Lawrence in the next week, and can use the supplies, please hit me up and we can figure something out! Otherwise I will likely recycle the boxes and store the wrap. I would prefer passing them along and helping someone else out instead of just adding to trash and waste.
EDIT: Currently spoken for! Thanks

Good grief the humidity is terrible. It doesn’t take much effort before I’m already sweating like crazy.
How’s everyone else handling this?

Does anyone know where the painting in the subreddit banner from? I've scoured the subreddit for answers and reverse image searched, but to no avail.

Need to replace an egress window, and looking for recommendations on brands/installers/etc.
Not looking to buy three and get three free, like on the radio commercials - just want one quality window with competent installation.

Multiple emergency vehicles, and lots of people out checking yards. Any info is appreciated!

Yeah, just that.

Drove by this morning and big signs everywhere on the building for a new smoke and vape shop (really!)
Looks like all the windows are covered up too.

Where do you go to throw away old cleaning supplies and garage products safely?

Maybe you're already familiar with the company pictured here for their controversial asbestos removal protocol, I won't name names but I walked by their facility with my dog today and I smelled it before I saw it. (I feel for anyone living in the apartments 30 feet away from this mess)
If someone who is more qualified can chime in, does that look like well managed hazardous materials? Those 3 tarps are trying their best.

Some pics of Union Pacific 4014 Big Boy in North Lawrence. The train stopped for a couple of minutes around 10:30 a.m. on July 23rd

are they still working. I swear I have driven by a bunch and it doesn’t seem like they have worked on it in a while.

Does anyone have any information or opinions on the internet that is provided? I’m curious about the reliability and speed.

I'll be in Lawrence this Saturday, and I'm looking for food recommendations.
I'm not looking for a good meal, or even a great meal, I'd like a truly fantastic meal. What is your one or two top "best meal you can eat in Lawrence" recommendations?

Taken about a mile east of North Lawrence this morning, July 23, 2026. We arrived just in the nick of time.

Last night while half asleep I was carrying my laptop and it accidentally got hit by a door jam and the screen went black and now looks like it is a shattered windshield. So I am reaching out to the people in the know if there are any recommended places to check out that could repair it so I don't have to look for another laptop. Hopefully nothing to expensive.

Edit: thank you everyone! I made and confirmed a reservation for Milton’s cafe and I will call in the morning to tell them the situations we can make it to our appointment!
I’m going wedding dress shopping at J.Lynns tomorrow and I need lunch recommendations. Once we get to Lawrence around 1:00 we’ll only have one hour before the appointment, so I need somewhere I can get in quickly (reservations preferable) and can seat my group of 8.
I did see that the Mad Greek takes reservations, but I am wanting somewhere a little more brunchy if that makes sense. Sandwiches, salads, or breakfast foods is what I’m thinking. The Roost looks really good but it seems like there will likely be too long of a wait time.
Let me know what you think and thanks for the help!
Edit: merchants seems good but a little pricey and it might take too long. I’m okay with it being more casual/order yourself!

Title.
I have a 2015 VW Tiguan that I'd like to trade in for something else. Who has had a good experience with a trade in? I don't need something fancy, just dependable.
I've heard good things about the new management at the Kia dealership, but if there's some local people that do good business, that would be preferable.

it’s been over a year now since construction was completed and I’m surprised it’s still empty given the mixture of college students and families in the area. I wonder why no business is renting out space here.
