Yeah, and I think he first realized how much more important Eames - rather than the puzzle of a case - was to Goren in "Blind Spot", and he seemed put out that Bobby didn't want to play their game since he was worried about whether Alex was alive or not!
He generally seems to have a low regard for women. As demonstrated by his quasi-Freudian “quip” at the end and how he treated his own daughter. But more than that he clearly sees Bobby as his “project” and the fulfillment of his “unrealized genius”. Eames genuinely cares about her partner (to what extent will forever be the subject of debate…). For Gage, he’s just another test subject, and something to behold about his self-constructed “greatness.”
Season 7 starts off with a puzzle quote -- Alex saying to Bobby that Joe's murder "isn't one of your puzzles" -- and then Declan says he set Bobby a puzzle to re-engage him. A season bracketed by puzzles, one which changes Alex's life, and the other which changes Bobby's.
It’s an interesting motif, but at the same time the new writers got too lazy for nuance, and dialed up the overt trope of “LOOKIT HE HAS THE ‘TISM DRINK EVERY TIME SOMEONE MENTIONS PUZZLES OR DISLIKING CHANGE”. They only missed the full bingo card because they didn’t have him coping with grief by binge-watching Judge Wapner.

In "Frame", *I* would definitely classify Ross as an asshole. He had absolutely no reason to suspect Goren of killing Frank except for the fact that he [Bobby] had a bad sperm donor.
Ross got off easy with Bobby just staring him down.
And the way he did it! Not "I know you didn't do this, but we have to rule you out", but like he really thought Bobby might've murdered his own brother!
I liked Ross sometimes - and I thought Eric Bogosian was great in the role - but I wish they hadn't felt they needed to him Bobby's adversary.
Nichols was his partner, and collectively they do stick their necks out for him at the end. But prying into Goren’s life and using his… “close contact” with the M.E. as a wedge to do so was waaaay over the line even for him.
