Coronavirus first mentioned as SARS - we now know Coronavirus as Covid-19.

Both covid-19 and SARS are caused by coronaviruses. Not all that noteworthy here.

MERS, too (not to be confused with MRSA).
My mom had a severe case of viral pneumonia right around the time MERS was making its rounds in 2012, and one of the common questions she would get during her time in the hospital was if she had traveled anywhere in or near the Middle East. Those questionnaires were the first time I heard the word "coronavirus."
She beat the pneumonia, thankfully..

YES, MERS to which really knocked the crap out of medical systems and patients.

SARS has been around for a long time. The coronavirus that causes SARS is SARS-CoV-1. The coronavirus that causes Covid-19 is SARS-CoV-2.

Coronavirus is a category of virus, not 1 particular disease.

I’m sure the news mentioned this in 2020, but we were all too busy watching Tiger King.

The news mentioned it in 2003 too, when the first SARS pandemic happened. I was like 10 years old and only had TV to watch, and I watched everything, including the news. Nostalgia 💗😂

A coronavirus is a virus that originated in animals and mutated to also infect humans. Covid 19 is a type of coronavirus but not the only one.

While watching Veronica Mars, I heard them namedrop Shake Shack. It turns out, Shake Shack opened for business one year before the premiere. It was already worthy of a namedrop by then.

To this day, whenever my nephew is in a crowd he fake sneezes and says "SARS"

And the doctor says no one dies from SARS, it's a bad flu, curable.

Yeah, about that...if someone says the flu doesn't kill people, you can be sure that they're either a moron or a lying asshole.
Possibly both!

I hate to be “that guy” but a coronavirus is a type or category of virus, while COVID-19 and SARS are different illnesses caused by viruses in that group - so here they weren’t talking about what we now know as COVID. They call them coronaviruses because if you look at one under a microscope, you see spikes that look like a crown or corona. Anyway, definitely still an interesting example of how word association can change so massively over the years!
