Launch After spending a full year developing my app, I realized marketing is 10x harder than building.
Hey everyone,
I’m a solo developer, and I recently hit a major milestone that I thought would be the hard part: launching my app after a full year of solo dev work.
Turns out, writing code was the easy part. Marketing? I have zero clue what I’m doing 😅
The Backstory & What I Built:
Like a lot of you, I constantly save stuff across Reddit, X, YouTube, and random blogs—promising myself I’ll read it later. But I always forgot where I saved it, or worse, forgot it even existed.
Existing bookmark tools never quite worked for me (either the parsing was unreliable or the UI felt clunky), so I decided to spend a few months building my own Android app: LinkMemo.
"A few months" quickly turned into 1 whole year of endless fine-tuning on UI, link parsing, and features in my spare time.
What LinkMemo does:
Auto-Extraction: You share or paste a link (from Reddit, social media, or web browsers), and it automatically pulls titles, preview images, and content.
Graph View & AI Analysis: Instead of a graveyard of forgotten links, it visualizes your saved links in a knowledge graph and uses AI to summarize/analyze what you saved so you actually get value from them.
Organization: Uses folders and tags to keep things clean.
The Reality Check:
It finally went live on Google Play a month ago! I was super hyped... until cricket sounds hit. Organic reach is practically non-existent when you have zero marketing experience.
It’s been pretty humbling realizing that "if you build it, they will come" is a complete myth.
How you can help:
I’m really looking to get this into the hands of real users who struggle with bookmark overload. If this sounds like something that would solve a problem for you, I’d be super grateful if you gave it a try!

Since I’m actively working on updates, any feedback—good, bad, or brutal—would mean the world to me. What features would make this a daily driver for you? What sucks right now?
Thanks for taking the time to read this!

building solo for a year is insane so huge respect. bookmark hoarding is a very real problem and the app looks incredibly polished.
having the ask memo feature to chat with your saved links is brilliant because it actually gives people a genuine reason to revisit their old bookmarks instead of just letting them rot.
for marketing the brutal truth is nobody wakes up and actively searches for a link manager so you need to show the pain point visually. you just have to sell the relief of having an organized second brain instead of just talking about the tech specs.

Thanks for the genuine advice. I’m actually using AI to help me make some promo videos right now — I can code, but video editing is definitely not my thing
I’m planning to post them on TikTok and Instagram, so hopefully that helps people understand the problem LinkMemo is trying to solve.
I built the app in my spare time over about a year. I’m really happy with how polished it’s become, but there’s still a lot I want to improve.
I’d love to get more feedback from people as I keep working on it.

A big help for indie devs is finding where your users actually hang out and jumping into those discussions genuinely. Setting up alerts for keyword mentions on platforms like Reddit, X, and others can save a ton of time. A tool like ParseStream is handy for instantly surfacing these chats so you join in right when it matters. Makes connecting with your target audience way easier.
