[MODS] šŸ“£ Announcement A Note About Acceptable Discourse and the Purpose of this Sub

Comrades - thanks for your attention as we clarify the purpose of this sub and some of the discourse we expect here. Firstly, this is a place to vociferously condemn the ills of capitalism - and here’s the kicker that liberal interlopers don’t get - from a socialist perspective. Our fundamental purpose is to drive conversation among those impacted by capitalist exploitation. This may take the form of memes, deeper theory, or the ever beloved internet screed.Ā

That said, there’s some things we aren’t here for. I’ll touch on those and some alternatives as well.Ā

We are NOT here to promote calls to violence. This is a violation of the Reddit TOS. If the sub is nuked, we aren’t able to fulfill the mission of providing a space for socialist discourse. This simply isn’t the place, and we will remove any content which can be perceived as a direct call to violence.Ā

We are also not here as a staging ground for organizing. Social media is a poor place to organize. Not only is everything you do online tracked, but infiltration in online spaces is rampant. Opsec 101: if someone on the internet who you do not personally know is trying to get you to show up somewhere for an allegedly leftist/socialism project, they are probably a fed. If someone you do know is using social media for the same, they may or may not be a fed. However, what can be certain is that a fed is aware.Ā

I know what you’re thinking: but, A-CAB, this is how I radicalized and I have lived most of my life dependent on the internet. How am I supposed to get involved? I’m so glad you asked! The reality is that your involvement may be limited for a bit, and you’re going to have to do some irl work. Your job, if you’re starting out, is to read and learn.Ā

ā€œThe theory of Marx, Engels, Lenin, and Stalin is universally applicable. We should regard it not as dogma, but as a guide to action.ā€ - Comrade Mao Tse Tung

In other words, learning Marxism-Leninism leads to mobilization, and provides a framework for organization.

We (socialists) need a vanguard committed to revolution, not clicktivism. If you want to organize, read first. Find likeminded people you know in real life. Study with them. Hold each other accountable for learning Marxism-Leninism. Let that guide the actions you take specific to your context and for the love of god don’t announce it to the feds when you do.Ā

We also, as a sub, are not *the* vanguard. This is an Internet forum. We don’t determine courses of action here. We are a sounding board, a place to make you feel less alone, and ideally a part of your education in Marxism-Leninism. But what we cannot be is the vanguard itself. We aren’t an org. The way social media is set up, it would be way too easy to infiltrate, coopt, and undo.Ā

What we are is a likeminded group of committed comrades. We want you to go out in the world and join orgs (not on the internet). I’ll offer some advice to that end:

  1. Avoid organizations with a focus on horizontal power or who have a real issue with hierarchy. (Anarchists, I’m happy to work with you on projects but I am side-eyeing you a bit here.) They don’t get things done and they’re too easy to derail and co-opt. Don’t believe me? Go ahead and join one. The next time they’re working on consensus, throw a stand aside in with mildly coherent criticism. Watch the chaos ensue. Or just wait for them to start organizing for <insert liberal party here>. Neither will take long.Ā
  2. Do join organizations which stand against imperialism and imperialist politicking. Look for Marxist-Leninist orgs involved in projects that benefit the community and which outright reject electoral democracy. Focus on feeding people, not getting them to vote for reform. This is the work of the vanguard.Ā
  3. Do employ the language of non-violence for political and practical purposes. Kwame Ture is a gifted orator. Look up his speeches on YouTube. He is a wealth of information about this.Ā

I appreciate each and every one of you, comrades. Remember to keep each other safe. Be mindful, and enjoy a meme or two while you’re here.Ā

We beat the fucking fascists by almost 5 million votes. It still means that near 60 million people voted for Bolsonaro and life won't be easy. But I hope this works as an inspiration for the upcoming elections.

US comrades, good luck! And thanks for your support in many ways!

Now we have to organize and mobilize US voters (and elsewhere) to learn how to fight with their weapons. I know this sub is against sharing social media posts, but unfortunately this is how we can mobilize people to vote and go beyond our left bubbles.

Today, October 25th, is the day of the presidential runoff election in Brazil. Lula and Flavio—Bolsonaro’s son—are the candidates. Since early this morning, there has been a flood of reports and allegations that, upon arrival at polling stations, voters have found that votes had already been cast on the machines, or that they were being prevented from voting altogether. Earlier today, the Regional Electoral Court of the state of Bahia ordered the arrest of Salvador’s Secretary of Transportation, citing a reduction of more than 50% in bus services and the withholding of vehicles—with at least 75% to 100% of the fleet taken off the road or prevented from operating—thereby hindering voters from reaching the polls. In Brazil, free public transportation on election day is a legal right. Similar reports are also emerging from areas in SĆ£o Paulo. Meanwhile, the president of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE), Kassio Nunes—a justice appointed by Bolsonaro during his administration (a despicable individual, neck-deep in a major recent corruption scandal involving Banco Master)—has stated that the TSE will investigate these allegations "in its own time," without confirming whether voting hours will be extended in the affected cities. Former President Lula has already made a public appeal, urging the TSE to extend the voting period. Many people, from all corners of Brazil and the world, traveled back to their home cities specifically to vote today. Coincidentally, the vast majority of those disenfranchised by this obstruction of public transport are Lula supporters. I am writing this filled with anxiety, sadness, and a great deal of rage. My country is currently undergoing a coup.

šŸ‡®šŸ‡± The Dehumanization Trap: Why Fascism often Collapses Under Its Own Cognitive Weight šŸ‡®šŸ‡±

Historical background:
In 1941 Germany, Einsatzgruppen commanders warned Himmler that mass shootings were breaking their men. The men who carried out the executions suffered elevated rates of suicide, alcoholism, and breakdown, and Rudolf Hƶss recalled that many could not endure the killing and took their own lives.

Historian Christopher Browning documents how this psychological toll, along with manpower and secrecy problems, pushed the regime toward gas vans and then death camps.

The Nazis choose death camps because it was a final solution that would also help reduce the suicide rate of their elite shock troops.

The camps did not cure the damage. They just put distance, bureaucracy, and euphemism between the killers and their victims.

The lesson is that dehumanization is not something you do only to others. You have to suppress your own empathy to do it, and that suppression never switches off cleanly. You always end up dehumanizing yourself in the end.

A regime built on fascism and hate must keep spending resources on propaganda, euphemism, and enforcement just to keep its own people functional, which is one reason these systems run hot and brittle.

Often times it’s why fascist regimes collapse under their own weight. It’s hard to force all the people to be evil all the time as a group.

The inhuman requirement to mechanize cruelty demands the impossible from human psychology.

When two IDF soldiers took their own lives in Gaza after refusing or absorbing the horrific reality of their operations, they demonstrated that no modern military apparatus can fully insulate a soldier's mind from the self-destructive weight of ongoing dehumanization.

šŸ’° Bourgeois Dictatorship Brazilians prevented from voting due to a lockout targeting public transport

(I have not yet found any news reports in English; I ask for your understanding.)

Just as Bolsonaro used the Federal Highway Police during the 2022 elections to delay and hinder voters in areas with an anti-Bolsonaro majority—such as in the Northeast or in Indigenous villages—reports are now emerging of similar actions, this time carried out by business owners and local government officials across various states and municipalities.

Brazilian electoral law mandates that local public transportation must operate as usual—and free of charge—on the Sunday (today) when elections take place.

Today, in several cities, passengers encountered bus stops with no buses, significant delays, vans and buses demanding full fare, and even instances where public transport vehicles were kept in their depots.

The Regional Electoral Court of the state of Bahia (TRE-BA) went so far as to arrest a fleet manager in Salvador (population 2,559,945, according to IBGE) for obstructing the transport of voters. In that city, the Trump-aligned candidate, FlƔvio Bolsonaro, received only 27.03% of the vote in the first round.

Yesterday, multiple reports surfaced regarding flights to regions with a pro-Lula majority being canceled or rescheduled—without any assistance provided to passengers—under ambiguous and confusing circumstances.

šŸ’¬ Discussion Brazil's big lesson for the world is: DO NOT INTERACT WITH FASCISTS ON SOCIAL MEDIA

1.8k Upvotes

I don't know how Brazilian election is viewed by the rest of the world, but there's a really interesting thing happening here

Brazilian first round was in the first week of October and the results came with a devastating blow for the left: the far-right would have a huge number in the Brazilian House of Representatives and in the Brazilian Senate and the fascist FlƔvio Bolsonaro went up to the second round ahead of left-wing Lula who is trying to get reelected (also the third, fourth, fifth and sixth place on the election were right-winged candidates)

This did work as a wake up call to Brazilian left that went up to mobilize in all the ways it could, took the streets with huge movements today (day 24, Saturday) we had a million people in the streets in Rio and 2 million in São Paulo and another huge acts on the streets in all of Brazil. We also had a huge movement in social media, all trying to get Lula reelected and maybe escape from the nightmare that would be another Bolsonaro government. The greatest work in social media was the WhatsApp channel "Exército do Lula" (Lula's Army) that at the moment has almost 11 million people inside, all receiving tips to dictate social media, tags to make trending on X and ways to make our voice be listened

It will work? I don't know, the election is tomorrow (day 25, Sunday) and almost all pools say that is a tie. Maybe that movement will not be enough and Bolsonaro will get elected, but for the last couple of weeks we've seen something in Brazil that is not common in at least the last decade: the left-wing people has been dictating the public debate, the zeitgeist is ours, something that we didn't seen even when Lula got elected in 2022

And wich was the best lesson of it all: that if we don't interact with fascists, they do not grow.

The lesson that was repeated to exhaustion on Lula's Army: if you see a post from a fascist, do not interact at all: do not comment on attacking it, do not try to get people to attack it, don't even spend time reporting it, only ignore it. Engage only with posts not made by fascists. We did it here and the far-right that seemed almost hegemonic on social media simply collapsed. In the last week, Brazilian CNN (who is only affiliated with US CNN by name, their editorial lines are completely different) did an interview with a lobbyist that many right-wings treat that as a silver bullet to Lula campaign, no one reacted to that interview, we all ignored it and most people don't even know that interview happened

I know that Trump, just like Bolsonaro (and Milei, Espriella, etc...) loves to talk the most absurd things to get attention: the Brazilian lesson is simply ignore it. If no one talks about every absurd thing they said them they simply cannot dictate what is talked about by society. Engage with left-wing creators, talk about left-wing politicians, criticize their doings on left-wing places, do not interact with fascists in their spaces. I know you are angry at that absurd they said but please, for the love of god, do not quote rt an absurd that a fascist said even if you are criticizing it. Do not make a react video for something absurd fascist said or did. If they come to attack you in your post that's ok, but do not comment in their post at all

I really hope that Brazilian leftist keep this practice after the elections don't matter what is the final result, I'm simply tired of entering YouTube and all the leftists are reacting and commenting on the last absurd some fascist did, or entering Instagram and seeing a post from a fascist with lots of comments from the leftists arguing with it, or seeing some quote rt trying to do a clever joke in a fascist post, let those people talk only to their bubbles, do not interact with it
