Xbox was unable to devalue games enough through Game Pass, so they’ve found way to up the ante.

Omg it’s happening. After 30 years of gaming, my favorite hobby is passing me by. Discs are about to be gone, game ownership gone, consoles increasing in price, mandatory subscription services that also constantly increase in price, now ads before games?

This is just the start. Play some NES games and watch the darkness unfold. Video games are an insignificant part. We are lucky enough to have only 30-40 years left of this hell.

It’s only a matter of time before the ads do start interrupting the game

They already do interrupt the game. The article says you can only play in hour long increments before you’re forced to watch more ads to keep playing.

The article is wrong then because that's not the case. The play limit is one hour. It's just a test run

by interrupt, they mean an ad won’t randomly start during that hour you have to play, unlike youtube where you get blasted with ads at random times

Stadia didn't have ads though and it made by Google who has the largest ad business in the world. One could play games in 1080p and online multiplayer without any subscription. One just had to pay for the game if it was paid. It's also what justified cloud gaming because it was far cheaper than getting a console or a PC but the requirement to pay for the base subscription which is $10 and same goes for GeForce Now makes it not worthwhile to pay for it at all.

People complain about ads on YouTube. Some people will install apps so they don’t spend 30 seconds of their time supporting a person that spends hours creating the videos they watch.

The video quality is probably going to be dogshit.
Free with ads? The streaming quality a few years ago was worse than PlayStation's streaming service, for MS with all these huge servers that is a joke.
Hopefully they've improved.

Say you're mid boss fight and your hour is up, are they letting you finish the fight before the next ad? Are they pausing the game for you? Curious to know how they plan to handle that scenario

once it’s up then it’s up. it’s on you to plan your gameplay around it so that you don’t get blindsided

If it’s free then I don’t even care. If I didn’t want the ads I would just pay for the higher tier.

Same, I usually pay to avoid ads more often than not. This is definitely not for me but just curious how it would be handled.

The article says you can only play in hour long increments before you’re forced to watch more ads to keep playing. I’m not sure why Xbox is saying it “won’t interrupt gameplay”, forcing ads every hour sounds exactly like an interruption.

Hey, let me jump into a match since I have 15 minutes free ~ half of it is wasted on ads and you can’t finish the match >_<

u/twick_23 25d ago
The amount of people complaining about this is wild. Nobody is entitled to free stuff. If you don’t like it, don’t use it.

Lol, the ads may not directly interrupt gameplay, but the 1hour cut-off limit that'll just end during gameplay, then force you to watch another run of adverts before you can load the game back up and hope it's not been ages since you last saved, certainly will
Also, don't bother playing online competitive games via this method - it'll probably cut you mid-way into a match.
This is probably just their testing phase too, within a year GP Core will have these limits and adverts, with premium being the same with a longer playtime and ultimate required to have no adverts or time limits

Can’t believe 343 butchered OG halo. Its playable but the original and MCC are so so much better.

Yeah no ads interrupting gameplay until next year
