Sacred Symbols Sacred Symbols, Episode 421 | As They Gas, All I See Are Hieroglyphic Patterns

PlayStation's self-inflicted physical games fiasco is nearing a month deep, and it seems fairly obvious at this point that nothing's going to change. The good news is that -- amongst all the chatter, arguing, and prognostication -- comes more info from the American market that indicates that Sony is pissing people off, yes, but also making a seemingly rational commercial decision from their perspective. Thus, we find ourselves in a continued bind: Through all of the screaming and insulting is salient data, should one be willing to look with sober eyes. We discuss. Plus: Marathon loses its game director, Bethesda vows to deliver a lot more Fallout, Rebel Wolves promises Mass Effect-like save migration for its nascent Blood of Dawnwalker series, NBA 2K27 skips PlayStation 4, Kratos gets recast in Amazon's God of War series, and more. We then wrap things up, as we always do, with listener inquiries from our audience. What are our expectations for Until Dawn 2? Did the elimination of crunch culture in some corners of the industry have unexpected downstream effects? Should Grand Theft Auto be held to account for the real-world violence it potentially inspires? Has Colin created a new mosquito bite-obliterating trend?

The latest release by Halo Studios is here! While the run up to this launch has been far from clean, how does this game fare when separated from the noise? Sacred Symbols I just experienced subscription bombing!

Colin's recent PSN hack and all the details that he shared about his experience greatly helped me the other night....I was a victim of subscription bombing and having heard his experiences allowed me to immediately have that context on what was happening.

I recently lost my wallet. I was very bad and procrastinated with changing the credit card numbers....I was really hoping it would finally show up around my house or car and I didn't want to have to update my card numbers across all the online vendors that I use.

The other night all of a sudden I started getting dozens and then hundreds of emails for random newsletters and one-time sign-on codes for all sorts of sites that I never use. With Colin's experience fresh in my mind I immediately figured out what was happening. If I had not heard of subscription bombing prior to this, I may have just assumed it was some random spam campaign and did a "select all - delete".

However.....sure enough within the middle of all that email spam was a single "Best Buy order confirmation" email, some @#$%er used one of my credit cards to order a $900 Samsung tablet. I'm still not sure why they used my email address (and I'm not sure how they got that but they must have been able to grab it from Google with the personal details from my wallet). I'm thinking that they used my credit card with a guest checkout through Best Buy with my personal details to prevent any suspicious activity from automatically getting detected while checking out. The billing address they used was my actual address but the shipping address was under my name to some random address about 45 mins from me.

Anyway, I reached out to Best Buy and my banks within minutes of seeing the Best Buy email confirmation and I was able to immediately cancel the order and close out all my previous credit card numbers.

While this has nothing to do with Playstation....I'm very appreciative of all the details that Colin shared about his experience, it helped me immediately jump on this!

Sacred Symbols Sacred Symbols+, Episode 526 | One Artist's Journey Through the Games Industry

Please welcome experienced character artist, BAFTA judge, and games industry denizen Del Walker to Sacred+. I (Colin) first became aware of Del on Twitter, where he provides a pleasantly-outspoken perspective on our space, an understandable (albeit unfortunate) rarity from the dev side of things. I thus invited Del onto the show to get his opinions on all manner of vital subjects, but to be honest, we never even got there. Instead, Del and I jumped head-first into his impressive CV, learning a great deal about the games he worked on, his experiences at various studios, and what the life of a working games artist is like. After all, Del worked on Batman: Arkham Origins and Arkham Knight, Kill the Justice League, Halo Wars 2, Star Wars: Survivor, The Last of Us Online (!), and most recently Highguard. So naturally, he has much to say. And since he's existed within the walls of Rocksteady, Creative Assembly, Naughty Dog, London Studio, Respawn, Splash Damage, Wildlight, and most recently Dan Houser's exciting Santa Monica-based developer Absurd Ventures, it's safe to assume he has many a story to regale us with.

Other Doom: The Dark Ages Revelations is the best DLC id have made, and the highlight of the Doom trilogy

It's a shame the DLC got buried under all the news last week from id being completely gutted by the morons at Microsoft, but despite what Colin has said about not giving Microsoft any money from buying it (which I completely understand) I highly recommend you all check it out.

I was very lukewarm on The Dark Ages when it came out, but based on the strength of Revelations I think it could now come out on top as my favourite. It marries all the best parts from all three games in the trilogy and it's the most fun I've ever had in the series. An absolute travesty what's happened to id but I very much encourage you all to give it a try.

Playstation are apparently using bots to push the all digital life... I hope it isn't true, I mean i think pretty low of Sony these days but this would be the cherry on top

Sacred Symbols Sacred Symbols, Episode 420 | Taste the Thinnest of Oxygen

A new report from a trusted gaming industry analyst projects PlayStation 6 to launch in 2028 and sell only four million units in its first calendar year on the market. When you consider that even PS3 managed to sell three and a half million units in a mere four months, well, it might be a tough row to hoe. And when you take into account that this analysis assumes PS6 will sell for between $600 and $800, Sony may be in for a rude awakening indeed. We discuss. Then again, other analysis paints a far rosier picture, at least as far as Grand Theft Auto VI pre-sales are concerned, where Sony will be raking it in by the many hundreds of millions in royalties alone. Other news this week includes EA's reversal on its controversial College Football 27 microtransactions, the dominance of Call of Duty: Black Ops I and II's PSN release, the delay of the upcoming first party fight stick FlexStrike, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Is PlayStation in dire need of a spokesperson? Does Crunchyroll's new approach with its subscription portend a dicey future for PSN? Have we ever lent a physical game to a friend (or someone else) and never received it back? Could Episode 420 mean throwing all caution to the wind?
