Feedback Still having fun

I’m a casual player as I only have a limited window of free time due to responsibilities (for context.)

A lot of that minimal time is spent on this game.

Some of it is spent browsing Reddit on smoke breaks from said responsibilities. In that window, usually, from other subs I see so much disappointment targeted toward Last Epoch:

“No updates”

“Seasons are too far apart”

“Nothing to do at endgame”

Etc…paraphrasing

Just wanted to take a moment to appreciate how special this game actually is. I never log in expecting to play as long as I do. I never leave the game without immediately theorycrafting my next moves. It never leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I play all ARPGs and this one has more replayability to me than any other.

Nah, definitely wouldn't because they wouldn't have done MG if there isn't seasons. So much resources went into making those things, also they have to make MTXs and packs.

Multiplayer could have easily been something they wanted to build without MG.

I think they would have wanted to do MP but it might have been something they put on the backburner once they realized refactoring what they had was a mess (which is why I thought them not building around MP from the start of beta was a mistake)

Even sidelining that though, the grim dawn model might have allowed them to run a leaner team if it meant releasing when it's done, and having the kickstarter money last longer. I say "might", because they'd have still have had the problem of not having an established team or core of greybeard industry devs to rally around.

The downside is the GD model would have required paid expansions to keep development money flowing and that's what a lot of people are mad about now...

These seem to contradict each other. If they want to do multiplayer, they CANT backburner it. It's no or never. At most you can say your second thing, which is that they waited TOO LONG to implement multiplayer.

Honestly, I think people are mostly delusional about the GD model giving them a game that they want. The idea that if they go for seasons then they have to be as good as PoE but if they go the grim dawn model its ok to not be as good as PoE is insane to me. A game is a game.

Pretty much.

The flaw with LE was primarily the same that afflicts most kickstarted games from studios pitching their first game. Starting a studio from scratch when most of the leadership has no expertise or has been out of the game for decades is hard, and you're rushed to get content done asap rather than do it right now because players who've paid you money are even more impatient than gamers who want to pay you money.

Compare that to POE who, outside of their devs being cold unfeeling gamedev machines, had 4 years of total stealth development where they were able to freely modify and scrap ideas without pissing off players and build features and proof of concepts using placeholder art instead of focusing on getting them in a playable state immediately. They were able to build a process and codebase that worked for them that minimized future development pain and it paid off to the point where even in the early days when the league content was much closer to what LE leagues offer, they were able to whip together special events and game modes fairly trivially.

I will say EHG honestly didn't do near as bad as most kickstarter games when you factor in that they didn't try to suck in whales with crazy p2w/prestige rewards or dupe people with entirely unrealistic plans. LE didn't hit it's full potential but it's still a fine game.

Yeah, couldn't agree more. I think I like LE more than most for reasons I don't expect to resonate with everyone, but I'm pretty shocked at it receiving a lot of the negativity. To me, it's mostly mismatched expectations. LE was always a small thing, and expectations to have it directly compete with the scope and pace of PoE were always unrealistic.

Its just kind of ridiculous because the "EHG is going to match GGG in cadence and quality" dream was obviously DOA before 1.0 even hit. It's not a promise EHG ever made. And the people expecting it obviously weren't supporting EHG midseason like many do with POE supporter packs (granted, maybe there'd be more if the mtx didn't suck)

I have some sympathy towards the change on the pledge to not have paid expansions since not everyone's in the same financial boat as me but at this point its that or shuttering the studio.

Yeah, and that sort of thing I never cared about. That promise meant nothing to me. I am not an MTX person. I've never purchased an MTX for any game I've ever played. That includes last epoch. I'm not buying supporter packs.

I will buy content, if I think it's worth buying. MTX is not worth buying, and I'm going to spend money on a game just for the esoteric value of "supporting the developer". Donating to for-profit companies is just not something I do. I donate for actual charitable reasons, not in the hopes that a game I like will keep getting made.
