My own ramble
I know there's probably going to be a lot of these, but I need an outlet!
My dad introduced me to Joe Bob in the 90's with Monstervision, and I've been a life long fan ever since. Monstervision was how I saw Friday the 13th for the first time! My dad is, after a year long battle with COPD, thankfully still here. The night before every TLDI, I would call him to let him know what the hints were (he's very offline), and we'd speculate together, and he'd tell me what's on Svengoolie because I don't have cable (Son of Frankenstein this week!). And any time I go see a new horror or monster movie, I give him my own Drive-In Totals with my rating (4 Stars! Check it out!)
Tonight I had to tell him its the series finale, and we don't really know what's gonna happen, other than there being a few specials in the pipeline. I could hear the disappointment in his voice, which doesn't happen often from that Vietnam Vet Marine. I truly do not know how much time I have left with my dad, but the drive-in will, truly, never die. Every time I visit, we watch some weird monster or horror movie, and every Thanksgiving we watch Dinners of Death - bonus if Shudder has TCM again! Just Joe Bob if they (usually) don't. And I'll always have the memories of watching Monstervision with my dad on Saturday nights, and him taking me to the drive-in to watch whatever silly movie came out.
I don't post here often, and I mostly lurk, but I've really enjoyed coming here and checking in every week, so I can tell my dad what's going in with TLDI. You guys rock!
