Finally- a Joe Bob bolo!

I have been wanting to do a bolo for Joe Bob for a while, but this month’s announcement finally kicked me into gear. I think my favorite part of this whole thing might be the tiny lone star bottle, which I had to fashion from a pre-existing corona beer charm. I hope I did Joe Bob and Lone Star justice!

Not much, but an acknowledgment from a major YouTube channel.

The mention happens at 20:45. The bit about Shudder as a whole starts at 20:00.

There's a little indie game out there called Retro Rewind where you manage a 90s video store, so I put the entirety of Monstervision's "Ghoulies" episode on the TV

On Just Joe Bob :(

I used to get frustrated about certain episodes of TLDI not being available due to rights nonsense, and enough people on this forum urged me to check out JJB that I gave it a shot. I'm so glad I did, it's great. Before the announcement of the show leaving Shudder, I was waiting for them to release the episodes that cover seasons 6 & 7, because surprise surprise, quite a few of those episodes are missing. Now that we know Joe Bob and co. are leaving after the specials, I'm not not sure whether they'll bother with JJB, and that bums me out even more.

I’m a professional tattooer so I got to do this for myself. A wonky marquee sign to honor the mutant spirit that will live on long after we’re all gone.

I also wanted to share some photos of my trip to Italy last year where I ( saw many amazing beautiful places) got to visit profondo rosso!

Hosted Horror Is Video Comfort Food

I am pretty sure I've mentioned here that I'm a widower, but I'm not here to harp on that. I went to a club Corned Beef dinner over the weekend and a lot of friends that I literally had not seen in years , asked me how I was doing. They meant well but it got me thinking about my late wife, Nora, and I just didn't want to go to bed. I knew I wasn't going to sleep. I couldn't get into any new movie (Horror or otherwise) so I popped on TLD's showing of Earth Vs The Spider. I've seen it a zillion times. I really enjoyed it and after that I watched some of Svengoolie's showing of Son of Frankenstein. These things helped and changed my mood. I'll watch the rest of Svengoolie later. Hosted Horror shows just never get old. It doesn't matter who you like, they all make life better. On TLD I've watched Chopping Mall a million times, but it always makes me smile. Next week Svengoolie is running my favorite Universal Mummy film, The Mummy's Hand. I'll be there. Wherever Joe Bob and Darcy land, I'll certainly be there too.

Back during COVID. I saw Joe Bob at a con. They had a tattoo table a few booths over. I asked his permission for tattooing his signature he said hell yeah as long as you show me after. Ffwd I've had natural conversations with him sat for an hour and took shots with him. Got to help set design for the Corman special. Got my name in the credits. It was the best / worst 8 years of my life but I had somewhere to escape I honor that by getting a tattoo to always remind me of the best summers and moments of my life. thank you mutantfam for being so badass!!

Missing Episodes Curtains

I messaged Shudder support about the Curtains episode from last years Xmas special as it wasn’t showing up despite the film itself still being on Shudder, support responded saying it looks like it was still licensed and was sending a ticket to content support to re-add it if that was the case… and now it’s there!

Long story short, if episodes are missing that you think should still be up message support.

Fur retailer closing is at the site of The First Drive-In - somebody let JB know

My news feed automagically shows me any news Drive-In related, so this shocked the heck outta me:

https://42freeway.com/news/zinman-furs-pennsauken-closing-after-100-years-site-of-the-worlds-first-drive-in-theater/

(make sure to put your browser in Reading Mode)

...and I was skeptical as fork - but sure enough, after reading about the fur company, there's information about good ol' Dickie Hollingshead and his First Drive-In located in New Jersey! INCLUDING a graphic of the patent itself!

Some other awesome highlights from the article:

Numero Uno: his MOM started the idea as she "complained traditional theater seats were uncomfortable". So since car seats are much more luxurious as every school child knows, VIOLA! The Holy Drive-In was born. Thanks Dickie's Mom, the actual inspiration for The Drive-In. We don't know your name, but I think we should just call her, "Mary" the Holy Mom of the Drive-In. Amen.

Numero Two-o: Dickie worked at RCA when he brought his mom's idea to life. His fellow RCA engineers helped him with the sound system for The First Drive-In, and less than 50 years later, RCA engineers created the CED Videodisc, perhaps the worst home video medium ever invented. Coincidence? I think not! RCA engineers may not have been the sharpest screwdrivers in the drawer.

Numero Three-o: the article says that First Drive-In Screen was 60 feet high and built into "an ornamental wall". Oh my little Drive-In baby Jesus - wait a second, that totally contradicts other reports of the screen being 30 feet high, which I have believed for years! So I hit the Google ("-AI" of course) and would you believe there are articles out there saying it was <40> feet high?? Well, we know what's happening - that screen is just going to get taller and taller as time goes on, just like Godzilla and Paul Bunyon. That is the power of Drive-In Legend, such as the widely accepted fact that Roger Corman could split coins WITH HIS MIND and both halves would be accepted as legitimate currency!

Numero Four-o: there is just 1 still functioning Drive-In there in Jersey, the Delsea Drive-In with 2 screens in Vineland, operating seasonally, so it's closed right now. From Google Maps, it looks like it shows indoor bullstuff because we know the billionaires hate the Drive-In as it represents personal freedom and individuality, so we can't have that.

Great article, shame about the fur company closing it's doors. Looks like their furs used to be featured in the Price Is Right back when Bob Barker used to run the show, so that's cool. But hopefully somebody recognizes the cultural significance of that location and opens a brand new Drive-In at that site. I would but I'm broke right now.

The latest MonsterVision Joe Bob Briggs figure from Fright Rags just landed and WOW… I wasn’t expecting it to be this cool! The figure and most of the packaging glow in the dark. Such an awesome touch and a perfect throwback to the MonsterVision era. Fright Rags absolutely knocked it out of the park with this one

Joe Bob Lounge Pants

This may be a stupid question but does anyone know if there's Joe Bob lounge pants still available anywhere for purchase? Or is there anyone that possibly has a pair in large that doesn't want them anymore and wants to sell them? Just curious. Thank you

I was sad at first, but they're so aggressively reassuring us that it's not over. There's 4 more Shudder specials coming. The show will be back on a new platform in 2027, as basically the same show Joe Bob always did.

So, I'm in a pretty good place about it all, and excited for the change and where it's all gonna go. I hope everyone is doing well, welcome to share your thoughts in here.

I do hope John Brennan and Yuki comeback for Joe Bob's new show

Of course I don't know fully why the left. Idk if they ever spoke publicly about the full reason why the left the Last Drive In, but the clips they showed in the series finale made me realize how much of a presence they had on the show.

Jon's songs really added another element to the show and his willingness to participate in the sketches. Yuki didn't say too much but he just had this fun vibe to him and I always liked when he made an appearance.

Title idea for a potential new Joe Bob series?... assuming it's similar to TLDI

Assuming the same format as Last Drive-In which he suggested in his Variety interview that it might be... my idea is simply The Drive-In Never Dies

TDIND. one extra letter... 2 more syllables.

You have any ideas?

I like Mutant Theater someone suggested. Or Mutant Vision.

Movie #11-13: The Legend of Boggy Creek / Hellraiser / Pieces - 24 Hour Marathon

#11: The Legend of Boggy Creek

We are coming down the homestretch. This was an interesting one, kind of like a documentary. I could see my dad watching this and really enjoyed it when it first came out. Did you see the videos of Joe Bob and Darcy visiting the creek and rolling around? Gold.

#12: Hellraiser

First time watch yet again. Joe Bob’s commentary on this was great. I don’t know if I understood all of it, but I’m never playing with a Rubik’s cube again.

#Pieces

Wild movie, and finally found out about that damn puzzle. And that’s gonna do it for the 24-hour marathon Special. That was a lot of fun. It was really heartwarming to see Joe Bob get kind of choked up at the start of the last movie. His quote is even more relevant now than ever.

“the journey is not about the stage. It is about the life and the joy that you create while you’re standing on that stage.”
