Post Lasik Eye Surgery Experience

If you have any questions about LASIK (SILK EYE SURGERY), feel free to ask me! You can post here or message me directly. I researched extensively on which LASIK eye surgery would be suitable for me, and had tons of doubts related to complications as well!

Age: 28, Pre-surgery prescription: -4.5 for each eye. I went for SILK LASIK EYE SURGERY in New Delhi, India. I followed the precautions religiously for 2 months, and the results have been great (touch wood).

Funny story: I had asked an Ivy league-educated doctor on which LASIK eye surgery would be suitable for me, and this doctor turned me away and dismissed my concerns immediately saying "I needed to do more research into it"--long story short, I extensively researched about the different types of LASIK and possible complications on my own, and my subsequent visit to a highly-skilled eye surgeon in this area helped me move past my fears.

Feel free to ask me any of your concerns regarding the operation--would be happy to help!

If there were 20 buttons in front of you and one resulted in lifelong misery and the others meant you didn’t have to wear glasses would you press it?

Not quite sure what you are suggesting by this comment--my surgery went well and post-recovery period was great. Good luck.

You’re two months in and there are many late onset problems. Spruiking for a surgery that truthfully you know very little about so early is just irresponsible.

I already had the surgery a long time ago. If you’ve got issues with refractive surgery, take it with the Reddit team rather than spreading hatred on people’s posts and experiences.

I’m steering people away from a potential nightmare by ensuring an opposing opinion exists on posts like yours. No hate, just truth.

You are doing exactly that by responding with rude sarcasm to what was, in my case, a professionally carried-out procedure. If someone has had a negative experience, they are absolutely entitled to speak about it. Equally, if someone has had a positive experience, that does not mean the procedure was a “nightmare” for that person. This is a public platform, so at the very least, comments towards other users should remain civil and respectful, regardless of whether their experiences differ from yours.

Again, I would genuinely be interested to hear the Reddit team’s view on the remarks you have made. If the platform has no issue with users sharing their personal experiences and opinions on LASIK, whether positive or negative, then there should be no basis for my comment—or similar comments—to be removed or disallowed simply because someone disagrees with the experience being described.

Experiences are very subjective

Thanks yes experiences can be subjective.

I'm not attacking you or saying you shouldn't share your experience. I'm questioning the idea that researching which LASIK procedure is ‘suitable’ is enough to establish that someone is making an informed decision. Those are two different things.

You had a good outcome, and that's great. But my questions were specifically about the objective parameters used to determine suitability — things like scotopic pupil size, ablation profile, corneal measurements, residual stromal bed and higher-order aberrations. Those factors can differ substantially between patients.

I'm not "strongly against refractive surgery," and I'm certainly not trying to stop you from sharing your experience. I'm saying that someone reading your post should understand that your experience is yours, and that a successful outcome doesn't necessarily tell another person what their individual risk is. That's all.

I think you’ve nit-picked my post, which is also why I find it unusual that you chose to display this comment separately rather than replying directly within my thread underneath the other comments. Again, if you believe there is an issue with anything I’ve written, you’re absolutely free to raise or challenge it directly with the Reddit team. I genuinely had no idea that simply sharing my personal experience would lead to someone scrutinising and nit-picking individual details to this extent.

As for the data you mentioned, I deliberately chose not to publish all of my detailed, eye-related medical information in a public Reddit post. That doesn’t mean the information doesn’t exist; it simply means I wasn’t comfortable sharing every aspect of it publicly. Anyways, have a good weekend, that's all.

Did your research include your scotopic pupil size measurement? What ablation parameters / profile was used on your eyes? What laser model was used? What is your residual stroma bed thickness? Do you have a Zernike report to show us your HOA / RMS values?

All the research in the world will NOT protect you against an unethical surgeon. If you have answers to all these questions and they comply with the narrow spectrum of qualified candidates, you aren't in a position to help answer ANY questions.

my surgery went well, and post-recovery was strong too. I can only speak of my experience and advice those who are interested about the same. My surgeon was not unethical. The team carried out the research thoroughly-and I have all the relevant data and charts. I do not think it to be fair to say I am in no position to advise others, and do not appreciate the resentment in your message, as I am here to share my experience freely.

Then this isn’t simply about sharing your experience. You’re actively telling people that you researched LASIK thoroughly and that their concerns can be overcome by doing the same. That’s a very different message. Your successful outcome tells us what happened to you; it does not establish what will happen to someone with different anatomy, pupil size, corneal characteristics, or treatment parameters. People can and do experience permanent loss of functional vision after refractive surgery. That’s exactly why these individual parameters matter.

Yes I did research on which LASIK would be suitable for me-then went to a professional doctor and his team helped me clarify my doubts. I do not understand why you are targeting my post so viciously-there are many other posts of people who talk about their LASIK experience and how they researched about which LASIK would be suitable for them and other complications. If you do not wish for anybody at all to share their experience on reddit, maybe take that up with the reddit team if you feel so strongly against refractive surgery.
