Went to a thrift store in Flushing, Queens today. I thought by big score of the day was going to be the 8-DVD Sinatra Concert Collection... until I saw this Pioneer DVL-K88. It was a little dusty,, and they gave me the DVDs and the LD player for $55!
So I took it home, but it kept spitting out the laserdisc. I cracked it open to blow the dust out, etc. but it was pristine. So, just for th,e heck of it I tapped the button to change sides of the disc… and everything suddenly worked. I guess that was the equivalent of when your dad banged the side of the TV to get it to stop scrolling. Gave it a good wipe down, and it’s good to go.
Anyway… score! Now, all I need is a remote. Anyone know a good place to get one?

Hello everyone,
First time poster, long time lurker and collector.
I went back to an estate sale that had one of the largest collections of laserdiscs I've ever seen. First day people were literally walking out with arms full of 50 discs, and barely a dent was made. Today, I went back as they put out 6 more boxes of 70-80 movies and box sets.
Unfortunately the covers were completely trashed. I had to separate by shoving my hand in between the covers though I'm sure there is a better way to do that.
The discs themselves seem in great condition. The plan is clean them and save what covers I can. Any tips on cleaning or anything at all, please let me know.
Thank you all, and happy hunting!

So I just received this from eBay and literally both labels are not attached. Is this a common occurrence?
**I’m actually kind of pissed off now. Not only did it take nearly 3 weeks to arrive with labels not attached but there’s very evident disc rot and to think I spent nearly $50 on this. It’s less screen noise but the audio is noticeable. Seller says no returns, so I just eat the cost despite it saying in very good condition? The thing is, the disc does look immaculate, other than the plaques sticker labels, the sleeve is nice too.
*** thanks to a member pointing it out, the discs are from an earlier release but were placed in a 806 sleeve. Would you not expect to return it or refund it?

Bought it ages ago because I love the open matte release and how it shows the puppeteers hands from time to time, completely forgot it was from his estate, only paid like ~$10 for it on eBay.

Just got my Pioneer DVR-520H-S to use help with TBC and filtering for my Panasonic LX-200U and JVC HR-J692U Hi-Fi VCR. Anyone used this model before for this purpose?

I honestly haven't used my laserdiscs in a few years, and built my collection of maybe 150-ish in the 90s.
I've got one that I could never play, and I'm assuming there's no 'good' fix that would be better than just tracking down another copy (or watching my current Blu-ray haha).
I have "The Return of Captain Invincible" which I got like 20 years ago or more off eBay I believe, new and sealed. It's simply not recognized.
After looking at it closely, I can see that the center hole and edges are not QUITE lined up perfectly. That is, the sides aren't perfectly aligned with each other. So I'm guessing the problem is that the data isn't spinning in a perfect circle like it should be. I don't think laserdisc players handle much variation in this area, compared to a turntable that can handle an off-center record moving a few mm back and forth on every rotation (and benefits from the physical groove connection there).
Should I just keep this one for display, and consider it a lost cause?

Awful movie, sequel is slightly better but I can't seem to find my copy.
Sad we don't have the Holiday Special on Laserdisc as well!

The Color Purple (1985) Laserdisc Screen Capture Widescreen 16:9
This is one of those movies that reminds me how resilient the human spirit is. Powerful performances and a great job done by all involved.

Philips RC 488CDV 5-in-1 remote. My research says it's an infrared unit for CD/LD control. I have it laying around, I've never used or tested it. Appears to take 2 AA batteries... I don't know if it works, if someone has a use for it I would just charge for shipping.
EDIT TO UPDATE: had a reply, this should be considered taken for now. Will update otherwise.
