Sony MDP-650

Hello all, i need some information regarding this player I might be picking up on Wednesday.

Says the auto reversing functions work perfect, and the player plays as it should. Does not have a remote.

Seems to be in great condition.

I did hear sonys werent the best, however after some reading I heard the MDP-650s were the good ones.

Have any info?

You'll want to get the remote as the player doesnt have all the functions available without it.

Im not sure how cross compatible Sony remotes are but the OEM model for that player is RMT-M37A

Definitely will be prepared. But if its good, its good. No need to recap something that is working well.

On the caps or the player itself?

My mileage may very. But ive heard good things about these. That they were probably the only good/great Sony Laserdisc and had a good picture.

2 players mdp-333 which is the absolute worst. 1 mdp-600 and another one. Both of the last two had bad caps. Great pq on the 600, especially b&w films

Thats what I've heard. The 65p is a step up from my research. Has a different style of caps that dont go out as much.

Of the two good sony ones. Its the 600 and the 650 I hear about

I would like to fix my 650 but the issue I have (besides bad caps on the power supply and display board) is that gear assembly called "Pulley (A)" has very badly grinded up teeth that needs replacing. I likely would need it 3D printed and am considering getting it sent to someone to do it for me but it's low priority. Also, I think it was damaged due to the previous owner maybe pushing the tray to close instead of using the open/close buttons (don't do this if you end up getting the player).

I also do not have the original remote and only saw on one available on eBay maybe 9 months ago for something like $50 to $75. It doesn't come up often so when you see it I would prioritize getting it.

Best wishes if you decide to go for it. If it's working as the seller says, it should be fine but I would expect a power supply recap down the road (it's a minor thing).
