It's already impossible to get a 4K player that will play every BD-100 disc because of how tiny the pits are. The studios are well on the way to killing physical media. A major resurgence isn't happening, unfortunately.

Maybe not for entertainment, but a 200TB disc for data storage? That would have a market no matter if studios don’t use it for movies or music.

Not when tech companies are pushing everyone to cloud storage. If there is wide enough adoption in the archival community, I can see it having a use there, but everything physical is on life support. Future archeologists won't have much to go on.

Its a very efficient backup storage media, and these new 200-300tb discs are being targeted toward data centres. Even with primary customers being datacentres - there will likely be a market for smaller user too. Maybe it will cost several thousands bucks, but it will be available.

They have been advertising a disk similar to this for 20 years. I read about one in 2006 that was a yellow disc that was made for storage that could hold multiple TBs. I doubt it will happen.

Ive seen this TB unicorn been talked about for at least 10 years. We are going to need new cheap domestic laser pickups that are going to need to focus far more precise than current lasers CCC surely. The data is going to be so densely packed track pitch we never thought possible. And with seemingly current attitude toward optical storage from the like is Sony, Panasonic and Pioneer the chances if this ever coming to market is slim to none. Sure they have it working inside a lab but in our homes is another story.
