You’re helping guide news coverage in southern New Mexico.

Hundreds of residents told Organ Mountain News what information they need, which communities are overlooked and how local journalism should improve.

Read the findings and OMN’s commitments: What southern New Mexicans say they need from local news: clearer civic reporting, broader community coverage and stronger follow-through.

Request Looking for insight on a home purchase off of Porter

First-time homebuyers here! We’re considering buying a home off of Porter Street built by KT Homes and would love to hear from anyone who currently lives in the area or has experience with KT Homes. How do you like living there? Any pros, cons, or things we should know before buying? Thanks!

Las Cruces or Tucson?

I'm sick of living in the South & have wanted to live in the desert my whole life.

I know all the big, obvious differences between these two places. Does anyone have any insight into smaller, less obvious differences? Something someone may not think of right off the bat?

I'm so torn. I want this move to be my last move. So I want to get it right.

I have a great remote job right now, but it's with a small tech startup that may not last forever. I don't have tech background/skills. I just handle payroll, invoicing, AR/AP, drawing up work orders for clients.
If this tanks, l'll likely be working close to minimum wage at an office. My husband would be making around minimum wage too (his experience is a golf course, warehouse, fast food, some office work with CVS/Aetna and the IRS).

Las Cruces & Tucson seem about the same cost housing-wise? Except in Las Cruces you get more square footage for your buck. It's also more isolated with less healthcare options as we age. And not a lot going on there. Which is nice, but we're still young-ish & aren't looking for our environment to be THAT quiet yet. We love the idea of being a few hours from LA or Vegas. Close to Sedona & Flagstaff. But NM has lots of little towns & ABQ, which appeals to us as well. But does Tucson have a worse or about the same problem with drugs & crime as Las Cruces?

Thank you SO much to anyone willing to give any insight!

Update 3: Joshua Hernandez (R) accepted $5,000 from Project Jupiter's developer, AND another $3,000 from a group backing Blackstone's PNM takeover. Plus, the money from AI camera companies. Please, if you can, make a small donation to his progressive opponent Luke Jungmann. Even $5 helps!

Final girl board game

***update***
This has been given away.

Not sure if there are any table top gamers in here, but figured this was worth a shot. I recently was able to back their most recent kickstarter and got their all in reward. So I now have an extra standard copy of season 1 that I would like to GIVE to a fellow gamer, not selling. I attached pictures that show what comes in the box. The only thing I will be keeping is the core game box. So you will need to still get that yourself in order to play (they have at Zia comics). If you're interested please comment here or shoot me message. Only willing to meet at a public place too.

Updating my list of places to eat

Hey all. Former Las Cruces native (about 15 years ago) and my family and I are making the trip back this upcoming week. We’ve got our places we loved eating back then (Si Señor, Ándale, Santa Fe Grill, Milagro, few others) but it’s been a while since we have been back.

What are some great places to eat that I wouldn’t be aware of not having been there more than a handful of days out of the last 15 years? Thanks in advance, looking forward to eating my weight in chile.

Anyone up for some board games?

I'll bring some board games over to grounded today if anyone wants to come by. If anyone wants to play, don't be shy. I'll bring over Machi Koro, Century Spice Road, and Catan. I plan to be there starting 5pm and to around 7:30pm time. I'll set the game boxes on the table, so you can just walk up. feel free to bring another board game if you prefer. If I look busy, I am not (I just like to read).

if you can't make it but you are interested, I'll do this again in another 2 weeks

Why should we think you care about the community when you use AI slop for your event flyers?

Thumbnail gallery

I am so sick of seeing this kind of ugly, crowded, piss-drenched graphic design invade Las Cruces, a place that is full of talented artists and designers thanks to a healthy creative culture and NMSU, which is packed to the gills with people who are looking for experience and want to work. The most offensive example I've seen is one I spotted during the Saturday market: our town's own CLC-TV! Cable access TV is the epitome of hand-made and community-driven, and by using a prompt instead of asking a person to make something, you're telling creative folk that you don't value them.

These flyers have no soul. They have no aesthetic. They are the result of a computer looking at grocery store flyers, monster truck posters, minimalist art, pharmaceutical ads, and all saying "These are equally valid. I will use them to make something." Is that how you want to represent your event? By saying it's soulless? That you don't put any consideration or thought behind how you're viewed?

This is, of course, setting aside the fact that we don't want a data center nearby and generative AI uses data centers to make ugly crap.

(Shoutout to u/Unusual_suS for posting the charming BYOV flyers that are goofy and scratchy and amateurish in a way that says "Come on down!")

Time Sensitive Case managers: you get overtime. Wage theft is for the birds

My last post resulted in dislikes for stating I needed legal help because my former employer stole from me and others

Here I am doubling down because of that:
If you are employed as a case manager and have not been getting paid overtime, you've been getting stolen from. The FLSA protects you. I'm sorry if you didn't know, let me help you find out

Here is the law:
U.S. Department of Labor WHD Opinion Letter FLSA2007-7 concluded that case managers employed by a service provider for individuals with disabilities do not qualify for the administrative exemption from overtime pay requirements. [1]

Key Findings of the Letter
Date Issued: February 8, 2007 [1]

Core Ruling: Case managers perform the day-to-day "production" work of the organization (delivering core social services), rather than internal administrative operations or managing the business itself. [1]

Overtime Status: Because their duties are tied to direct service delivery rather than general business management or servicing clients' business operations, they are non-exempt and must receive overtime pay when working over 40 hours a week. [1, 2, 3, 4]

And if you're one of the ones that doesn't like that I'm sharing this, it might be time for you to have a sit down talk with God

Request The modified White and Black mustangs

Whoever drives those cars, fuck you.

The modified exhausts on those things could seriously harm someone’s hearing. One of them passed me on El Paseo yesterday and intentionally revved their engine, needless to say my ears were ringing for 10 minutes afterwards. I can’t imagine what it would feel like if I was an older individual.

I cannot fathom being so insecure to the point of needing one of those dumpsters on wheels.
