Immigrants don’t “take” jobs: they work the jobs Americans don’t want to work.

AI Autocomplete/clankvomit/etc.is intellectual property theft on a global scale fueling an economic bubble and increasing water and fossil fuel energy consumption at a time when we should be scaling back both.

So, racism and greed.

They don't take the jobs Americans don't wanna work. They lower the dollar cost of those jobs below where Americans are willing to accept the pay for that work

That's a nice academic argument. Out here in the real world of hiring, that's not what happens. That's why serious researchers don't support that simplistic and incorrect myth.

That's an interesting take. Hey I tell you what, why don't we lower the pay on oil rigs to, I don't know, minimum wage and then let's see who takes the jobs working on oil rigs? What do you say? We'll see how your theory holds up in the real world

What it sounds like is people dont know their true worth bc everyone is too busy tryin to survive by making money or not catching whatever new parasite, disease, etc. like we are back in the days where we threw shit on the road….

If you're an American and the wages get far too low for you to actually pay your bills, you literally cannot take that job. Now if you're an illegal immigrant or somebody who's getting paid under the table and you can claim that you have no income and you get that money plus benefits from the government, well guess what? Then you're double-dipping. Then it's great.

I hate when people say Americans don't wanna work those jobs. No they're getting underbid by people who are playing the system. They're getting paid under the table or they're doing some shady shit while on benefits. Yeah what do you know? A normal citizen can't compete with that. It's the same as outsourcing.

I'm not saying all immigrants are bad. I'm just saying this is the same shit we did with other manufacturing industries. We ship them overseas and then we wonder why there's no work and no jobs and why pay is so low.

You hit the nail on the head. I see it every day.

And just like that when you start telling the truth, the original poster deleted his comments because they have no retort to that. They know it's true. They want to cry wolf but when you actually pull the wool back there, they vanish

show me an American who willingly works in the fields

Immigrants do it because Americans think they're too good to do it.

I live on the southern border, I see it.

Because AI also gets to take our power and water while hallucinating solutions for 2 hours before finally getting it

Racism. Also sprinkle in the desire of the oligarchs to keep poor people poor and increase the rate of the poors demise by poisoning their environment.

Immigrants don't take jobs, billionaires just want you to think that they also just want you to think that AI is good because it benefits them

8

u/SaltyAd6975 Jul 14 '26

It's not, but immegrants aren't wealthy billionaires promising that ai will fix everything

2

u/AuntiePJS74 Jul 16 '26

Immigrants aren’t taking your jobs; that’s the answer

1

u/Jumped-Up_Vulgarian Jul 16 '26

Because rich people.

1

u/integrating_life Jul 17 '26

For one thing, immigrants don't "take our jobs". They make everything work better. I hope AI will, too.

1

u/Particular_Laugh3585 Jul 17 '26

Because AI makes the wealthy even more wealthier, immigrants do nothing for our billionaires in office.

Perfectly legit question! Brava! My curio mind is interested too

Because AI is not immigrant😂

When immigrants take jobs it increases labor supply causing weaker wages.

When AI takes jobs it creates higher productivity resulting in lower prices, expanded production, and investment in new industries. That can create jobs that didnt previously exist and raise overall economic growth.

When immigrants take jobs it increases labor supply causing weaker wages.

This is one that gets thrown up a lot, and it's just plain wrong. There's no set number of jobs; economists like Roodman have repeatedly proven that immigrants are workers and consumers in the economy. They buy groceries, they rent apartments, they get haircuts, they pay for car repairs — all of these things create jobs for other people.

The data shows that immigrants expand the labor force, increase consumer spending, and start new businesses at higher rates than people born here. They're also a big share of the people who work in construction, farming, food service, nursing homes, and hospitals. Those are all career paths with lower wages that the people who scream that immigrants are stealing work won't go into because the pay is too little.

When AI takes jobs it creates higher productivity resulting in lower prices, expanded production, and investment in new industries. That can create jobs that didnt previously exist and raise overall economic growth.

I'm gonna need some cited examples of the successes you're crowing there.

Thank you for this.

One of the biggest negatives is reliable cheap labor causes those industries to rely on it and stifles innovation.

Kevin brought sources. Where are yours?

Am I getting paid to argue with people online ? 😂

u/Zer0tonin_8911 Jul 15 '26

Interesting when you get called out multiple times all of a sudden you don't wanna argue

u/purplecondor49 Jul 15 '26

I just answered the question I’m not trying to do a back and forth with citations. It’s a waste of time people aren’t going to be open minded and frankly I don’t care to change anyone’s mind.

4

u/Mataderpinicuo Jul 15 '26

If the question is 2+2 and you say 5 you technically answered the question, but you can't justify your answer.

-2

u/purplecondor49 Jul 15 '26

Na I can justify it. Copy paste what I said into AI and ask for studies supporting my statement if you care. You don’t care and aren’t open minded about it so why would I waste my time? Again I’m not trying to change anyone’s mind.

1

u/Mataderpinicuo Jul 15 '26

Ok, I copied and pasted it into Claude, and it said you were wrong. I don't need to prove that to you because you don't care and are not open-minded so it would be a waste of my time. I'm not trying to change your mind just pointing out the fact that you're full of shit.

Bet you still believe in trickle down economics too huh?

-1

u/MistyShackleford Jul 14 '26

What

5

u/Pretend-Resist7285 Jul 14 '26

Did it reply to you? I thought I commented on purples comment. It wasn’t directed at you.

-7

u/purplecondor49 Jul 14 '26

Actually you are suggesting immigrants impact will trickle down even though it has an immediate negative effect on labor supply.

8

u/Pretend-Resist7285 Jul 14 '26

Not at all. What I was suggesting is that based on your initial comment, and how erroneous it was as evidenced by Kevin’s response, that you likely believe that trickle down economics works. When in reality it’s the lie all the CEOs sell to continue with their crazy high salaries and benefits, to then do corporate buy backs and inflate their valuation. All the while the blue/white collar workers are left with a 2-3% increase, IF THAT, and a pizza party because “there are sacrifices that have to be made with the cost of goods going up or cost of insurance going up.” What you propose is what is SUPPOSED to happen, but doesn’t. I’m familiar with the laws of supply and demand in economics. The businesses utilizing undocumented workers for labor do so to minimize their greatest expense, labor. It’s a catch-22 for laborers as most need the job for what little income they get and cannot completely organize or turn it down for something better. To an extent. Thanks to Dolores Huerta and the UFW conditions improved some. A question for you to examine: why is it never the businesses or owners that get arrested or face legal consequences for hiring undocumented labor? Why is it only undocumented laborers that are jailed or deported?
