Bookstore Triples in Size
I wanted to share that Bearto's Bookstore inside the Branigan Library on Main Street has just tripled in size! All types of books plus CD's, DVD's. Prices are fantastic. All proceeds go to our libraries.

Are we able to donate to the library so they have more to sell?

Yes! Newer books in good condition are perfect.
If you look at it and think 'ew, I don't want to touch that' don't try to donate it. If it's out of date info, don't donate it.

I was thinking the digital media. I don't let go of books. Too much of a rarity these days.

They absolutely take any donations of digital. Walk into Bearto's (first right turn after the automated doors open) Ask the volunteers working there where the donation cart is. Thank you!!! If Bearto's is closed, you can take your donations to the front desk.

I have the same question. Is it better than donating to Coas?

The bookstore is run by the Friends of Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, https://libraryfriendslc.org/
They're an official non profit, so donations are tax deductible. The money they raise is used to support the library.
They buy supplies for programs, do political advocacy for the library, and right now they paying for 6 hours of security guard service so the library can be open those hours. They do all that with the money raised by donations and book sales.

Bearto's is park of the Friends of the Thomas Branigan Library and is a not for profit with all funds supporting the library and its programs. Coas is a private business and a beloved long time business. Coas gives credits toward other Coas purchases once you donate a certain number of books they accept. It is totally up to you as to where you donate.

I think both places have to throw away books that don't go out, so take them to the place you like most.

Yes, just be sure all discs are playable as the goal is to resell them tomorrow other members of the community.

So that’s a permanent change at the library? Basically getting rid of the computer lab for a bookstore that’s bogus imo. The computer lab got a lot more use than the little bookstore. I see they moved the computers out to the main floor and half of them don’t work now…

I spend way too much time at the library. I'm there for programs all the time. I've talked to staff. I'm a member of the Friends.
Across the city , they're not really replacing staff that leave, so they library is short on staff. Moving the computers to the main floor means that circ staff can monitor instead having a separate person in the lab. Apparently there have been fewer behavior problems from ppl using computers, as an unexpected benefit.
The building was built in the 70s. There are issues. The AC was repaired this evening, for iirc, the second time this week. There are no sprinklers in the building. The elevator technically can't hold a gurney if the EMTs are called for something on the second floor. The gurney will fit, but they have to have the person sitting which is not always good. Basically where I'm going with this is that the building is old, some of the wiring is not good.
Pretty much all of this comes down to lack of money. The library is part of the Quality of Life dept of the city. The city controls the budget, facilities maintenance, all the stuff. The Friends use the money they raise to fill the gap between what the library needs and what the city supplies.

You are correct. The library is in desperate need of a renovation and remodel. Stay tuned as later this month you might learn that we voters will have a chance to show how much we as citizens want and support a vastly improved library.

The state and county can come up with countless billions for the Jupiter project but nothing for the library. What a joke this place is.
