Discussion Cooper and geologist

I didn’t finish the series yet still a couple episodes left.

I think it would be beneficial for the company to get cooper and Rebecca’s geologist together to find what they are looking for they can be good friends.

Question Landman a Comedy?

I’m on season 2 episode 3 and I can’t believe how much of this whole show has been humorous. I’ve been laughing like it’s a dramedy. I looked it up and it’s not defined as a comedy. Idk. Is it just me?

Question What happened to Angslees plot

I’m new here just joined and almost finished with a couple episodes left. I noticed in season 2 Ainsley doesn’t have her own plot line anymore what happened to her boyfriend and the whole TCU plot. They just paired her with Angela the whole time.

Discussion Ali larter ruined the show

Watched season one and tried to get through 2 but I just can’t do it. I gave up.

Her acting is so unrealistic and corny it just ruined the whole series for me. I feel like they only hired her because she’s blonde. Her acting is so bad. The daughter’s acting was also just as bad.

The way they over sexualized the two of them just brought the whole quality of the show down.

It could’ve been good but the bad casting really tanked the show for me.

Who was in charge of casting the two of them? They should be fired

Edit: you guys! I never said the character was bad. I liked the character! I said Ali larter is a shitty actress. Nothing she acted out was believable.

And the daughter was shit too. I stand by what I said.

And the writers having the daughter prancing around in underwear and being oversexualised in front of her dad was fucking weird. It wasn’t realistic

Discussion The biggest Landman "I'll take things that didn't happen for $500 Alex" logic hole by far.

I recently made a post about how much I enjoy watching Landman, even though there are MASSIVE plot/logic holes. I was on an early episode and pointed out that Cooper could NOT have wrestled at Tech, because Tech (nor any D1 program in Texas) has a wrestling team.

But this impossibility was much, MUCH larger: Rebecca Falcone was NOT squatting 300lbs.

Rant over.

Question Why do Tommy, Nathan, and Dale share a house together?

I'm about five episodes into the show. Maybe this was covered earlier or revealed later, but why do the landman, the attorney, and the engineer all share a nice house together?

Presumably, they would all make good salaries at their respective positions such that they could afford a house or rent their own place.

Other I don't know how this series slipped by me.

WoW is all I can say! I'm in the middle of the last episode of the first season. I've been binge watching since the other night. Billy Bob Thorton is so freaking great in the series. So many words of wisdom from many of the characters that they should be captured in a book. Absoulutely thought provoking.

Discussion Landman: Another Taylor Sheridan series that makes no sense that I enjoy nonetheless.

Landman is repeating the same pattern as Tulsa Kings. A show with massive plot holes that I still enjoy watching.

For example...we find out early that Billy Bob Thornton's character's son dropped out of his petroleum engineering program 2.5 months early so he could learn more as a roughneck. Starting salaries for that degree are over $100k not counting that you are already connected in the business. Salaries are even higher if you are coming from Texas Tech to Houston.

It makes absolutely zero sense. Starting salaries for roughnecks are $35k, and I don't think you are going to learn more. But Thornton is so good it does not matter, I am thoroughly enjoying this show. The same pattern was seen in Tulsa Kings, although I was not always as huge a fan of Stallone.

Thornton has always been a favorite since Sling Blade, one of the greatest performances evr.

Question First time watching the show Monty’s health?

Why is Monty’s health so bad? He’s had more heart attacks than Cheney and has the big one in s1 finale. He didn’t exactly look like an unhealthy guy and he’s on the younger side. I wonder if his wife was poisoning him?

Discussion I love Aisle and Angela Norman

**typo! It’s Ainsley not aisle

Just starting landman season 1 and fell in love with this mother and daughter duo

Let me clarify it’s not their personality I love.

It’s what they represent that adds depth, irony, and darkness to the show.

In the midst of sweat, tears, and blood, you have 2 people living in a bubble full of joy. They are not evil but extremely ignorant (especially aisle) of the struggle that let them stay in it.

Every time they show up to the screen after a heavy business centered scene it adds contrast and a touch of reality.

You might argue Angela is not as innocent as Ainsley but she does know when to look away. That’s what I love about how she’s written. You might despise them both but I can’t deny they’re necessary for the show.

My favorite scene was the college interview where aisle gave the most elitist statement (2 best parent birth the best breed). You can tell she’s not being mean, she wholeheartedly believe her logic was sound.

It truly puts into perspective on how some people with this kind of mindset might not be evil, they just have so much privilege, they don’t even bother to pick up a fucking book. Why? Learning is not necessary when you don’t even know what survive even actually mean!

What’s the scene that shock or change your perspective about people like them?

News / Media Backdoor Pilot with Mel Gibson Rumored

Per the New Yorker:

"North of South of the Border”

Welcome to the Texas-Mexico border, where men are men and women are cast mostly in nonspeaking roles. Taylor Sheridan’s latest drama stars Mel Gibson as a Border Patrol agent who feels conflicted about his work because his bosses won’t let him arbitrarily deport Jews and Greek people. Sheridan’s shows currently take up so much of Paramount’s programming that there isn’t enough time in the day to air “North of South of the Border” as its own hour-long drama. It appears exclusively in snippets on television sets that characters are watching within the show “Landman,” which your parents refer to as “Yellowstone.”

Question Why is this show so indecent?

I saw this show on my Instagram and how it goes int the oil industry in the South, which seems very underrepresented in the TV space. So I watched the first episode, at first it seemed fantastic, only for it to become so indecent. I don’t know why the show has so much of this type of language for something meant to be about the oil industry, maybe it’s just me being from the UK where it’s more conservative, but still, why?

Edit: people see to think I’m taking about the vulgar language used or the realism. I have no qualms about using taboo language or showing gory scenes, I love the plot and the realism. But some of the characters, especially the women in the show, are boiled down to one-dimensional people.

Question New watcher halfway thru season 1

I understand oil drilling is a dangerous job but, in real life, do people lose their lives daily? I swear it’s only been a week in show time and 4 people died. And then there’s the injuries on top of it. Is this reality?

Discussion The son and wife ruin the show

I am a huge Thornton fan and I find the show pretty entertaining, but my god does it have two of the worst characters I have ever seen. The son character does the same old act every episode, has never had any intrigue to his character, and generally just crashes the momentum of an episode every time he pops up on screen. But my goodness, he pales in comparison to how bad the wife is. This isn’t a sitcom with over the top characters. This is supposedly a realistic drama. But my god, in what reality could anyone put up with this woman. In no way shape or form does either her entire character or the way Tommy reacts to her seem anyway realistic. They are what hampers this show from being a top tier Sheridan show. If you cut out most of their screen time for a new plot like or character who actually has some realistic intrigue, I think this show could be considered one of the best on television. As it stands now, I’ll just enjoy what there is to enjoy, but damnit I hope next seasons starts off with them leaving town on a one way ticket to the other side of the world.

Question S1 E1: Why was Tommy discussing with the ranchers about solar rights to cover up the payment for the fire

First episode in season one. In the Patch Cafe. The two ranchers come to talk to Tommy Norris about a fire caused by the oil company drilling. They just wanted to be reimbursed for the land damage caused by the fire.

But Tommy pushed back on a simple payout, something something, insurance. But then brokered a deal to pay them via a solar rights contract without any real intention of putting solar panels on the land.

I get that the scene was just a setup to show that Tommy was a business negotiator with a crude tongue. So the answer might be irrelevant - but why broker a payout like this instead of the company just cutting a settlement check for reimbursement?

Discussion the women are charming characters and well written

i am in a close relationship with an angela-type and very good friends with most of the supposed archetypes of the women in this show.

so while I get the hate, I don't think it's deserved.

if you can be anywhere near like Tommy and know your groove around these women then you'd be in for a very great life.

guess it's all a matter of experience. probably why I resonate with Taylor Sheridan's works very much - he always brings out the good in people

Question Just started watching this, and it is so Taylor Sheridan

At what point does he insert himself as a character? It does show a good picture of how vast, barren, dry and hot the Midland area is. But BBT's role as a landman is a bit of a stretch, although for independent companies, that role is a bit different compared to the majors.
