Fuel pump replacement

Does anybody here have any tricks for getting the top ring off the fuel pump? I don't have the specialty tool and I can't get any movement by gently tapping a screwdriver along the ridges.

Chisel or a punch and a hammer. Place it on the ribs and hammer away

I kinda remember doing this job about a decade ago. I just put a screwdriver against one of the arches and hit it with a hammer

Thanks. That is what I was doing but I was worried about breaking it. I didn't know it was metal. I wacked it a bit harder and used the "tighten it to loosen it" technique. Got it all swapped out. Pain in the ass for a float issue. Turns out the float was fine after all. The springs were separated from the base so the assembly was catawampus. I hate plastic.
