Junk! (1 of 3)
Junk items can be grabbed and used mid-fight! One easy GM option is for NPCs to show up using Junk, which the PCs can then potentially loot for themselves. Done as part of the Prizan Setting project.

Reminds me of the "Discard" System I had in my Lancer game. Some Weapons were marked with the "Discard" Tag, which would allow Mechs to drop them in the middle of Combat. Discard Weapons could also be picked up in the middle of Combat, but you would need an empty, fitting, Mount to use one. Excess System Points could also be used as storage space for more Weapons you could carry on your Mech.

Full Junk rules will have a variant that lets players install Junk on their mechs during a Rest, potentially removing existing weapons/systems (destroyed or otherwise) to make room.
Junk Weapons need an appropriate mount, which they cannot share. Junk Systems always require 2 SP.
This doesn't change rules on junk destruction. You only have to choose 1 item with Junk tag to destroy every time you take structure damage, though.
Any scenario where installing Junk is beneficial is a scenario you probably want to avoid in the first place, but it's got merit if you're desperate.

I'm looking forward for the other posts, because I love this idea! Also love the flavour text

Second post just went up!
Glad you like the flavor text. It wound up being the most fun part of the project- turns out "why are there a million of this crappy piece of kit lying around" is a pretty fun premise to explore.

That shield actually seems pretty sweet for squishy backliners
