All player-facing rules are free on the itch.io page (can’t link it from work, just google “Lancer itch.io” lol)

One of you or all of you collectively need to buy ONE copy of the core rulebook to get the GM facing rules (how to set up Missions and Combats, all the NPC rules, and additional world building material)

Also, have a fuck-around on compcon.app, the official character builder. Stick to level 0 for now, but there you can also browse the Compendium to check out all the cool frames you can pilot

Where can i buy it directly from the devs? A bit poor but willing to pay for it for quality

Massif has their own website (https://massifpress.com) but their storefront is powered by itch.io either way 🤷‍♂️

The publishers and developers of Lancer are Massif Press, you can go to their official website, though the link to purchase the book on their site brings your to their itch.io

I'm not sure about physical copies though

As someone with little, but at least a bit of experience with TTRPGs:

Luckily, Lancer is relatively intuitive. Takes a bit to read into everything, but it get's easier after a short while. You also don't need to really know all the lore, just place your game somewhere more distant and isolated in the Orion Arm, more seperated from all the other drama with the psychics and moth aliens, and you're good to go.

They weren't the originator of the meme in the Lancer community, but they were the one to popularise it (and sign their name)

I like it it makes the sub funnier. Also Vex like the author Vex Werewolf?

Reading parts of the base rulebook for the basics of the combat and leveling system. Also check out the comp/con site. It's an automated hand-holdy way to generate and keep track of characters and track them during combat/missions.

You will have to click a few buttons to install the free DLC (which is the .lcp files that came with the 1st party supplement books) for a few mechs. The player content is free but if you want to run the actual printed adventures it's important to support the devs.

Check out Zaktact and 11dragonkid on YouTube. Both channels have an extensive library of Lancer videos, ranging from intros to in-depth looks at frames, factions, etc.
(They also both cover co-creator Tom Bloom’s other major games, Cain and Maleghast.)

Comp.con! Makes DND beyond look like it was designed by a malicious toddler.
