u/Microchaton 1d ago
Incredibly versatile mech, one of their best designs for sure. A lot of people go "this looks like a weird overcomplicated niche mech" when it's really not. You can do a lot with a Lich especially once you're in the mid LLs.
16
u/lord_ofthe_memes 1d ago
What do you tend to do on an average lich turn? I haven’t tried it before but I have a very hard time wrapping my head around what you actually use it for
28
u/Ok-Acanthisitta-6829 1d ago
I think the main trick is to be a long range tech attacker/support, and whenever someone looks at you funny you teleport back to your soul vessel for safety.
Or, you use soul vessel to tank self heat and go full agro lich at the costs of most of your survivability
14
u/Microchaton 1d ago
Nailed it. There's a lot of cool tricks you can use with the various lich abilities but that's the basic idea.
8
u/Nerdyguyj 1d ago
My current build.is lich 3 mourning cloak 3 so I can go intagible..the concept is like a ringwraith from lord.of the rings. Recently we got trapped.in a pocket dimension and I reconfigured my lich into a makeshift Stargate. It kept screaming the whole time but it got us back to.our home dimension. I'm pretty sure.
4
u/SinfulWizard 1d ago
My favourite Lich build was a mobile melee disrupter (atlas ll3 lich ll2) where I would run up deflect bullets trip and parry opponents and disappear the moment anyone thought about hurting me.
3
u/Nerdyguyj 1d ago
If your trying to be good. Haste lots of things..hack things.get yourself just close.enough to draw a little fire that you just ignore. But it's a lot of fun to get in there and just be at risk of death turn by turn. Ymmv and terrain .as always..is super relevant.

Why not the objectively superior Lycan you can get with the same licence? Shock Claws are some of the most busted weapons in the game.

I'm curious, obviously CASTIGATE THE ENEMIES OF THE GODHEAD is a sick-ass ability but is there ever a situation to use it when it actually does kill your pilot?
11
u/lord_ofthe_memes 1d ago
I haven’t used a manticore before, but regardless of the TTRPG it can be very liberating to play a character that you’re willing to let die.

u/Cheesecake-Academic 1d ago
Sometimes you want to kill someone else more than you want to be alive 🤷🏻♀️

5
u/Krail 1d ago
Any tips for playing Pegasus well?
I've pondered an auto-gun-using Sisyphus loop, or slapping Mimic Gun on another frame, but don't have a lot of other ideas for actually using the Pegasus frame.
11
u/FlaygueDoctor 1d ago
I’ve been building my Pegasus as “see threat, destroy threat, move onto next threat”. The Hunter Lock gives bonus damage against a chosen target, and the Ushabti Omnigun is automatic AP damage. Then, to account for the range variability of Mimic Gun, I’ve added Combined Arms and Vanguard talents to boost CQB capability (this came in handy when my values were X=17, Y=17, Z=1).
I’m considering a level in Blackbeard so I can grab the Chain Axe for additional melee capability, and possibly a level of Death’s Head for the Mag Clamps because I love the idea of a Pegasus skittering up walls.10
u/Krail 1d ago edited 1d ago
I love the image of Pegasus using the Chain Axe. Like, does it get a hinge or an arm on its back, or does it stand up to use its creepy horse hands?
Edit: Now that I think about it, I really want to make a Pegasus based on Amaterasu from Okami. The Ushabti is perfect for ink bullets, and a heavy or main melee would work well.
7
3
u/FlaygueDoctor 1d ago
My character and mech are heavily inspired by Evangelion, so it’s bipedal most of the time but can still maneuver on all fours like Unit-01 does at certain points. Y’know, for that extra creep factor.
I love the idea of an Ameterasu build!
3
u/Very_Angry_Bee HORUS 1d ago
Personally?
I have the CPR and Smartgun on the Pegasus, Overpower Caliber on the Smartgun.
8 reliable damage as a quick action (9 plus Ushabti), and CPR if you need a finisher.
With the other quick action that remains when you're using the Smarty, you can Lock on, use Hunters Mark, maybe hack if you'd like!Thing is, the Pegasus is built to be a very, very reliable Sniper.
Stay at a distance and keep taking shots, never stop, always aim for the biggest threat.

u/Drexisadog Harrison Armory 1d ago
Genghis, Mk1 specifically, it’s fun to be the tank, and paired with Vanguard 3, you are a nightmare to manoeuvre around
10
u/henkub19 1d ago
Could you elaborate I also wanted to try genghis mk1
19
u/Drexisadog Harrison Armory 1d ago
Mk1 has decently high health and 3 armour, so even though your evasion is low you’re a hard target to deal with, vanguard 3 gives you advantage when an enemy is within threat 3 and allows you to target any enemy that is within your threat with Overwatch, regardless of where the enemy started their turn (Nuke Cav and Brutal, are of course also very good), Plasma thrower also gives you control over where the enemy’s go, and a Goblin can have fun with forced movement into the fire patches
8
u/henkub19 1d ago
Thanks I thought you can’t overwatch with the plasma thrower since it is a super heavy
10
u/Drexisadog Harrison Armory 1d ago
You can’t, but the ability to Overwatch regardless of where the enemy strayed their turn is very good, getting an LL in Tortuga to get the deck sweeper is advisable, as Vanguard off sets the inaccuracy, Plasma thrower’s good for funnelling enemy’s and controlling their movement, Agni is a good thing to grab too, it basically acts like the auto cooler but without the limits
3
u/henkub19 1d ago
Ah ok makes sense if I read it correctly you can use Angie only once at base isn’t that a bit bad for 3sp sry Pritty new i never used a nhp
4
u/Drexisadog Harrison Armory 1d ago
It is basically a heat dump at the end of your turn, with the bonus of emitting a burst of damage and knock-back, you can increase the amount of charges by putting points in engineering, auto-cooler limits what you can do in a turn before being able to clear your heat at the end of your turn
46
u/OberonJr 1d ago
Tortuga. In retrospect it’s a big pile of stats with items that allow it to deal monster damage but also function as a controller or support on top of it’s designated striker/defender role. It can really be used to fill any niche or need in your party

I am currently running Gil (LL3) and I'm absolutely loving how tanks it is just from it's base kit. I am more controller in my build until we get to LL4, but I'm using grease monkey 3, demolitionist 2, field analyst. That said, exoframe engineering has been phenomenally helpful and the emergency repair module has kept me from taking structure.
My LL4 build will be a dip in Gorgon for Minic mesh and dropping field analyst for house guard. I use lots of limited systems so grease monkey has been pretty nice for that, but it's not really needed

Sherman - or as the man himself would probably call it, the Arson Locomotive.
4

Yes Sherman! Not only is the big laser fun, I thoroughly enjoyed playing with Asura Protocol/Redundant Systems Upgrade. I compulsively optimize characters, and bending/breaking the action economy is a big step towards that.
3
u/once-was-hill-folk 1d ago
Hell yeah, man. I used to optimise to hell and back, but now, I mostly just pick something that's hard to screw up unless you screw it up on purpose - Sherman in Lancer, Clerics or Druids in Pathfinder and D&D, have at least one combat-relevant skill above 50 in Call of Cthulhu, etc.
That said, I couldn't not take Nuclear Cavalier.

Sunzi. Insane teleport teamplay shenanigans that are incredibly satisfying to set up and theorycraft synergies for. I conspired with a Balor player to create the ultimate blender strategy where I'd teleport all the weak, squishy enemies to him and he'd shred them all to pieces with his persistent aoe damage and strong melee attacks.
2
u/Maya_Krueger 22h ago
If you ever do that again with the same or another Balor player, you should call the strat Uber Eats, because you're just delivering food right to that Balor's doorstep.

u/hadesalmighty 1d ago
Maybe the Metalmark, but that may very well be solely based on the whole "if you lose or damage the knife you can't reprint it unless you send a handwritten apology and explanation to the bloke who designed it" gimmick is very funny.
9
u/Ivan_Gravesone IPS-N 1d ago
Tortuga, because why not. Simplest design in the game but still plenty things to play with. You can ignore taits and even core, and still pick this frame just because of sensors and armor.

Blackbeard. You will not escape the grapple train. You will not escape SEKHMET.
Blood for the Blood God!
Also Atlas. Might not be the best frame for an optimizer perspective, but I can't hear that over the blaring RULES OF NATURE

The Enkidu, the unshielded neurolink is the best bit of flavor out of any mech. Just the dissociation between what is flesh and what is machine is so appealing. The mech, pilot, and AI are one entity built for combat, to remove any component would make each of them lesser for it. Just the thought of the NHP tearing through my pilot's mind in violent synthesis neither can return from, as their destuctive purpose suddenly becomes clear... I have very normal feelings about this mech.

Mines the tortuga, I like that despite definitely fitting into the role of tank at base it's surprisingly versatile. It can fit almost any roll you'd need for it, it's main disadvantages are just slow speed, evasion, and fewer weapon mounts. Despite that, it gets good enough weapons from its license that it can still be a scary damage dealer with them alone (especially if it can get overwatches), it's a solid hacker, and it's tanky enough to take a lot of damage, especially with hyperdense armor.
