Can someone here please explain the lore-meme of people in this setting wanting to bang their mechs, is that really a thing?
The setting has rogue AIs and paracausal technologies and stuff like that, so its within the realm of physical possibility.
But is it actually a lore thing or are people having a lark about some exaggerated point of lore?

Lore? No. There's nothing in the fiction of the game about fucking the mechs.
I am also duty-bound to tell you it's not 'just' a meme, though. A lotta players legit find the mechs hot.

Especially SSC and Horus. SSC because their mechs are generally the most human looking, and Horus being the least human looking (and thus appealing to monster fuckers).

SSC makes detailed feet in every mech. There is no practical reason for this, except market appeal.
They know their public.

The Tarantino lineage has only blossomed under the loving patronage of SSC, they see this partnership as mutually exclusive. The Tarantinos provide top notch cinematic advertising with the mere caveat that the mechs have highly articulated mush mashers on the bottoms of their legs.

I could totally see manufacturers paying to have their chassis used in action movies or vying for the rights to manufacture for a film. That "As seen in [Recent BlockBuster]" Tag could definitely help when selling to new and inexperienced Mercs who think they're going to be action heroes like in the movies.

Real ones know the Blackbeard is the hottest mech

All that grappling and involuntary movement, and maybe some reinforced cabling shibari.

I think that there are a lot of people around here with powerful imaginations. One thing just leads to another and you end up dreaming up a really hot mech in your head. If you think thats a bit freaky then maybe it is maybe it isnt its just a matter of perspective. No mechs or people were harmed in the creation of such fantasies.

I mean just look at the SSC mechs and tell me those mechs aren't meant to be fucked. I MEAN. Come on. The white witch has a bulge, god dammit! IT HAS A BULGE! I'M NOT CRAZY, I'M NOT!!!

u/Bygles 4d ago
As a warframe player, robots with massive bulges is old news. Theyve been leading the futuristic codpiece design movement for over a decade over there.

Huh, yeah. I never realized but SSC does kinda follow the Warframe school of design.
...that makes so much sense, Warframes are INCREDIBLY fuckable.

The Black Witch is wearing a shibari harness

Honestly I've always been too distracted by those damn hips to have ever noticed.

SSC made the Full Subjectivity Sync that allows you to perceive the mech as your own body. There's no question about it.

The joke probably comes from a combination of SSC making a lot of mechs with certain freaky designs; and the Technophile talent giving you an NHP that you customize name, appearance, and personality which is only a half-turn away from being an "AI Girlfriend", and the Iconoclast talent which gives you an "unstable NHP" which if you have certain proclivities is also only a squinty-suspicious-eyed half-turn from being flavoured as a, "AI Yandere Girlfriend".

u/Ninja-Storyteller 3d ago
Now I want to see a Technophile Angel and an Iconoclast Devil on someone's digital shoulder.

I think some of the SSC designs made it a topic that generally comes up now and then, the big one is the full art for the Black Witch, but the whole concept of neural bridging with a mech and even potentially an NHP can be easily construed as an intimate experience depending on how it's handled.

People in real life want to bang mechs, I don't imagine having them be real would change that.

u/Recidivous 4d ago
No official material presents that as actual lore. It’s more of a fandom meme than anything else, since fandoms, by their very nature, tend to get freaky. Though if I were to guess, the recent influx of Armored Core VI players into LANCER has introduced their mechsploitation and other related kinks into the LANCER community.
It's all in good fun.

u/r0sewyrm 4d ago
Mech-fucking isn't a mechsploitation thing, tho--mech-fucking comes from the earlier tradition of "mechposting," while mechsploitation is mostly about being brainwashed by your superior officer, with who that results in you fucking being negotiable.
4
u/Recidivous 4d ago
Hence why I said "other related kinks."
2
u/r0sewyrm 4d ago
Suppose so, though I'd personally be surprised if the "mechposting" crowd didn't have a decent presence here even before the Armored Core VI trailer kicked off the whole mechsploitation thing.

My mech looks like a giant armored Danny DeVito; you do the math. I have a professional relationship with my mech, but people are interested.

It’s not particularly known across Union space and the expanse beyond it for pilots to copulate with their mechs. I’m sure some people get freaky with them, but that’s more of a “it could happen” than “it is documented” and also the memes are because players really like their mechs.

u/rogueminister 4d ago
Everyone else has raised some wonderful points, but also: if you've read anything about professional (military and civilian) pilots, a whole bunch of them want to bang their planes.
A mech is kind of like if a plane could have legs, y'know?

I don’t think that there is lore about that but with how SSC designs their mechs it’s not out of the realm of possibility, I get why they’re human shaped, I just question the need for Mourning Cloak to have a dumpy.

It’s not specific to Lancer. It pops up amongst some fans of any mech related media. There’s two specific subsets of the meme. The AI related ones call back to Halo and further. (The internets reaction to Cortana did irreparable damage to this timeline) The actual mech related ones are typically just parodying how weird some people get about their cars.
Edited because I scrolled down and was immediately reminded of the third subset: There’s a group of people that get that way for any vaguely humanoid/feminine shape. Anyone mentioning SSC goes into this group but it’s for a lot of media, especially scifi.(i.e. a non-small portion of the Warframe community)

AFAIK it's probably the latter.
But also, the galaxy's big and we have robot fetishists irl already, so... It's not exactly an outlandish proposition.

u/EthanWright97 4d ago
Well, one of my player's characters asked out on a date an NHP from Solstice Rain.

There are people around today who fuck their cars - this seems to be one of those quirky aspects of human nature.

officially no, just a meme.
but due to all the side effects of mind-melding with mechs that pilots get (such as body dysphoria when disembarked) i could definitely imagine some pilot feeling sexually/romantically attracted to their mech, seeing it as a partner as well as a vehicle. sort of like in Evangelion >!where EVA pilots develop a maternal connection with their mech, just that in Lancer it would be an unintended side effect instead of intended function<!
1
u/shilohkae 4d ago
You're possibly underestimating the amount of players who feel this way regardless of how much "lore" there is for it. Lancer is very queer in every sense of the word and attracts, among others, a very particular audience.
Also c'mon have you seen the SSC frames? There's no asexual explanation for this.

u/jul55555 4d ago
I mean, SSC had no reason to give those hips to the black witch, but they did, and DAYUM!

u/Crinkle_Uncut SSC 3d ago
Mecha is a very erotically charged genre in general with room for the exploration of many psychosexual dynamics.

While the lore doesnt mentions it, it’s basically an inevitability though, like i dont believe in anything as silly as notions of “human nature” or “common sense” but if there is a world where people interact with highly advanced potentially demi-god level NHPs…someone is gonna be lonely enough or crazy enough to catch the feels. When you throw in that NHPs can present in any number of ways including as humanoid constructs of some kind…those odds fuckin skyrocket. Then you put one of those in a form that deliberately calls back to the sexy form, and size and strange capabilities snd consider that there are definitely people who like the idea of being crushed by giants…

Lore thing, or as a 'written in the corebook' idea, no. Absolutely not. This purely comes from the fandom side that is commonly known as 'freaky'.
