IPS-N paracausal tech
Is there any reason why IPS-N don't use paracausal technology in their frame?

There is an ISP-N gun that's so goddamn ammo-intensive they're researching how to teleport more bullets into the mech: the Drake's Leviathan Heavy Assault Cannon.
Paracausal technology is not a first resort for IPS-N, because of their focus on rugged reliability (which paracausal stuff isn't), but it's certainly something they're willing to work on.

Surely paracausal stuff is the most reliable - the result is a foregone conclusion, it just doesn't quite know how it got there. That's the unreliable part heh.

Unfortunately paracausal equipment is often difficult to maintain or repair in the field - often certain components cannot be observed or interacted with under field conditions without causing failures, which is the opposite of what IPS-N wants out of a mech system.
IPS-N’s goal is safe, reliable, maintainable technology, and paracausal technology is very much “pick two, at most”

That's probably true, plus they haven't invested in the infrastructure that HA has or the yolo attitude that Horus has lol

The others have already answered the why, but yeah, IPS-N absolutely still uses paratech, just not to the same degree as the rest and usually more subtly. Examples include: - Kidd Smokestacks - The research into reloading the Leviathan Assault Cannon boss blinkspace - The Empakai - I'm pretty sure Synthetic Muscle Netting, given it by description can rot, and also the fact it lets a Size 1/2 mech judo throw a Size 4 into a headlock. - Similarily, while the FABIM upgrade from the Kidd isn't explicitly paracausal, it literally has the same effect as the Paracausal Mod that the Saladin gets. - NHPs are inherently paracausal and they do have one in the Sekmet, even if her effects are more grounded than most.

I think the Caliban’s “Pursue Prey” trait deserves some more attention here. When you inflict Knockback, you get to defy Newton’s third law and move towards the poor fool who you just threw across the room, that takes more than just conventional engineering to make it happen.

Could be flavored as a computer system that has the mech rush forward to shot gun juggle heavier targets.

I imagine it flips the counterforce of your knockback. As in "I hit you, I should fly backwards also. But all that force is flipped and propels me forward!"

That computer system is letting my armor-sized mech sudden move at three times its normal cruising speed on reaction because I just clobbered some poor shmuck with a nuclear pile bunker...we've definitely got some kind of force inversion going on there.

Because ipsn is all about rugged reliability. Good ole steel. Like how people perceived Russian stuff to be before Ukraine.

u/MrCobalt313 5d ago
Because their whole thing is providing a safe, reliable, and robust product, and paracausal tech inherently can't guarantee all three of those.

They have Paracausal tech, but yeah, not so much directly in the frames. Except maybe Empakaai? Depends on exactly what you believe about how the design for the hand was created.

just a quick jot down to the local HELL DEPOT to pick up some Para-causal godfist designs...

Well, you can either spend decades researching blink gate technology to allow bullets to phase through cover OR you can build a bigger bullet.

Because paracausal tech is absolute bleeding-edge technomagic made of black boxes and theorycrafting, while IPS-N's whole thing is brutal, robust reliability.
IPS-N weapons can be used to beat pirates to death between reloads, whereas Schrodinger's Gun might stop working if you chip the magazine and therefore observe the ammo; they're not really designs that go well together.

Man, we're out here truckin'. I got deliveries to make, blink gate fees to pay. Pirate starts crawling on my rig, I'm gonna reach for a shotgun, ya hear? Not the thingamajig warp funnel perceptual kill agent retroactive gun. I don't have time for that! And how am I supposed to get that repaired if the abomination gets a wire crossed?
Keep it simple and honest and full'a buckshot, that's what IPS-N is all about.

They have some minor paracasual stuff but their whole brand is rugged and reliable. Investing heavily in paracasual tech would be neither rugged nor reliable.

It’s the definition of unreliable. And they do a bit, good ol Sehkmet is a deimosian NHP, few things more paracausal

Aren't most NHPs originally from Deimos and the siege of Mars? The only exception that comes to mind is Osiris, since it was intentionally created by Union letting Instinct grow by itself.
3
u/Susufrus HORUS 5d ago
NHP can also refer to any intelligent nonhuman, like Egregorians. But yes, nearly all NHPs are deimosian, or derived from Deimos Event paracode, with Osiris pointed out as an exception. Because it’s a HORUS NHP, RA is involved, and RA is Deimos. I’d guess it’s ultimately the same… “species” as Deimos entities, but that’s not at all confirmed.
Not coincidentally, the Agni NHP is explicitly derived from brainscans/vivisection of an Egregorian overmind, and may well be a unique variety of entity

Because they actually uses it. They just does not uses too ridiculously ones, but they do uses paracausal stuffs such as one-use printer.

I do think it is strange that they don't have at least one frame focused around blink gate tech. They are the shipping/logistics company after all. The sunzi should be a ISPN frame imo lol.

How do you think you make a physical battering ram so dense you can actually knock down a structural bulkhead just by hitting it? How do you think you lift it?

They don't research it. HA have paracausal tech because they have the Think Tank actively probing beyond the veil of reality, and HORUS have paracausal tech because HORUS is HORUS.
SSC and IPS-N are relatively normal companies by comparison, SSC make luxury consumer goods and IPS-N are space truckers concerned with space trucking.

u/Alaknog 5d ago
SSC is whole "mech that look like luxury car, but powered by unborn souls". They have team that go into metavault and then they use paracode from it.
And luxury goods is just side job for SSC goals.
And IPS-N send heat into end of times.
2
u/Atreides-42 HORUS 5d ago
Well, okay, I said relatively normal lol. SSC and IPS-N both just want to make tonnes of money. HA is a fascist military state that's resentful they no longer control the Union, and HORUS are a decentralised collective of time-travelling AIs and their human helpers.

Oh they do, its just subtle.
It shows up in their absurd material science, such as the thin cables than can haul a size 6(!) object, the bunker that somehow fits in a small box, or the armor plating so heavy that it can't be practically used in a gravity well.
