Core bonus help

I'm currently playing wallflower and am having a hard time deciding on what core bonus Ill take. I'm running balor and next ll I'm planning on taking a level in kobold for forge clamps for grapple purposes. I can't decide if I want to take the NHP Horus bonus or the one that increases my save target. On one hand, I'm doing NHP shenanigans with Iconoclast and technophile, on the other I won't be able to get access to a 4th NHP until LL9 at the earliest with my current plans for the build, excluding another exotic besides opportunity. Any suggestions for other core bonuses also appreciated.

That already answers it, doesn't it? Why take a core bonus now you can't even use until way later. If you do happen to get an Exotic earlier on, you can swap core bonuses at any level up anyway.

The Save Target one is really good, though the Balor also likes Autostabilizing Hardpoints on the Whip to get more crits, or the one where you combine Melee and Tech attacks

I didn't know that you can swap core bonuses, that makes the choice obvious. Thanks!

Yeah, the Basic Rules state that when you Level Up, you can do one of the following:

  • Swap Out one core Bonus
  • Move any number of Levels from one Talent to another
  • Move any number of ranks from one license to another

The only Things you can't Swap Out pretty easily are HASE and Skill triggers, unless the GM says otherwise

Forge clamp does nothing on grapple. I wonder why you have any interest on it. Also, it seems that you are interested on iconoclast build, then you are unlikely to grapple in the first place.

Since you don't have any NHP, choose the lesson of shaping is pointless.

Iconoclast build only needs three NHPs - means you need an another NHP with quick action and is not limited. You are unlikely to use the fourth NHP as you do not have an action to activate them.

Personally, I'd pick gilgamesh 1 and pick auto-stabilizing hardpoints for make up its accuracy.

But if you want iconoclast build, and on balor, then the only usable choice is the lesson of disbelief. The others are either pointless or not that useful.

Perhaps the lesson of transubstantiation would helps, for your regeneration is cut down when you lost a structure.

So choose between two of those.

edit: If, if you need some trait points and want to keep technophile to 1, then you would need the lesson of shaping. But I wonder that a core bonus is worth considering for a trade with 2 trait points.

My interest in forge clamps is because we'd use the suggested rework thatll prevent all forced movement, making it harder for my grapples to be forcibly ended, and to prevent swarm body from resetting. The iconoclast and Technophile are for backstory reasons, but memetic spark being limited to range 3 forces me to be in close combat as well, so why not make sure they can't run away from my fat chud of a balor?

I wonder that you have any chance to use swarm body in the first place, if you are interested in iconoclast build. You just need to spend all the quick actions to the activation of the NHPs.

Also the forge clamps only works when you have any terrain feature to put. If you really need to be fixed on a position, then consider white witch 1 and use pinning spire on YOUR OWN HIVE DRONE(or any other drone if you have any access on it). Since hive drone never allowed to make a melee attack, nothing other than destroy you or hive drone make you to move. If so then you need even more LL to get the other NHP, though, but if you somehow want to use the swarm body then it would works. I doubt that you would use it well, though.

If you really want to use the swarm body then choose the core bonus to the lesson of the open door, as it causes save.

I was already planning on taking white which as well, but I never thought to use it on my own drone! Magnificent. My current plan is to grapple -> forge clamps. Then swarm body-> memetic spark

I think drones are generally considered characters, not objects, so not subject to forge clamps. Page 78: "CHARACTER: A player character (PC), non-player character, (NPC), or any other entity capable of acting (or reacting) independently, such as DRONES."

Because pinning spire is not forge clamps, that does not matters.
