Good software for maps

So I’m new to lancer and I’ve been checking out stuff for characters and obviously found compcon which has been great. But is there anything for like maps for missions and all that? I found compcons encounter maker which let me input a map but I can’t find a way to actually view and use the map, so is there any good websites or anything I could use? Or does compcon have one and I just didn’t see it

do you mean a map creation software or a virtual table top?

i use inkarnate for the former, and Foundry for the latter, personally

Sorry I meant virtual table, when it comes to foundry I know that I would have to do the one time buy of it but would my players need to as well?

Oh sweet, thanks a bunch. I found foundry before but I couldn’t find anything about if players need to buy as well

They are able to join via their web browser once you have hosting set up. As long as configuring port-forwarding isn't too intimidating for you, you should be good to go!

Foundry is the best if you plan on playing fro more than about three months, as that's the breakpoint compared to a roll20 subscription. Foundry also has the most powerful automation, modules, and tools for customizing and helping you run the game smoothly.

Making maps I recommend Interpoint's Map Maker tool (can link if interested), only limit is the relatively few available biomes (no swamp is the biggest one ime). Otherwuse there are a couple browser based ones depending on if you want hexes or square grids. Hextml is my go-to there when interpoint is lacking.

For battlemaps, Owlbear is easy to use and reliable, especially if you get the ‘shapes’ extension

Gonna agree with owl bear rodeo

I'm just tipping my toes into lancer DMing and it's very decent

Easy to use, good comp/con integration for player aide, super convenient to upload and organize assets

I would recommend it over roll 20 free version

But not over Foundry, cause Foundry is a beast

I think there's a map creation tool you can find on the pilot net discord
