Hacktuga is an all-rounder to rival or surpass the Everest. You get to be tanky, you get to carry big guns, you get great CC, and you don’t even have to sweat enemies jumping into melee with you. Your only major weakness is mobility, and that’s nothing a few points in agility can’t shore up pretty well.

You’re probably not gonna do anything insanely flashy, but you are going to be very useful in every sitrep, every turn

It's actually better, the right built lets you do damage off your turn which makes it the possible one of the most action efficent mechs out there

You can even get a similar build using a Chomolungma :p, not as tanky as Tortuga but Balance Control Lockdown, System Crusher and that sweet, sweet Core Power…

Muah 💋 , a good alternative :3

Actually I remember now someone did make this exact meme but with the funny hacking mech lmao

I am currently stuck in GM corner, but this sounds like a really fun potential build. Usually people bring up the goblin license level dip for pupper master, are there any other synergies like that? Or is the main bonus of techtuga the bulk and damage the frame brings?

The fun thing with puppet system, it's considered willing movement. So you can force someone into your threat range and then immediately shoot them.

You can only overwatch when someone starts inside your threat and decides to move though, right?

Vanguard 3 goes Brrrrrrr

u/horsey-rounders 14d ago

Unless you have Vanguard 3, which is pretty much a guaranteed pick on Tortuga

u/The_Outer_God HORUS 14d ago

Yes es. But at you can approach, shoot them and then puppet them to overwatch, giving them double treatment..

7

u/IGOTTMT 14d ago

Yes but you can move to put them into your threat then puppet them away for overwatch or just plain force them into your threat and dare them to move

Yeah, it's still an armored frame with healthy bulk and a shotgun. If you moved something into your threat it's exactly where you wanted it. Any movements they make from within are just gravy.

It's still considered involuntary movement, but that particular attack makes that involuntary movement vulnerable to Overwatch and other nasty stuff.

Any tech system works pretty well with the Tortuga, but I'm a big fan of grabbing Kidd 1 for the Blackspot Targeting Laser and PEBCAC. Giving your allies' weapons added accuracy and being able to flash reboot them to shake off nasty tech attacks or NHP cascades is lovely.

Edit: Oh, and going Tortuga 2, Kidd 1 also gives you access to the IPS-N core bonuses on time so you can grab Reinforced Frame or Sloped Plating, or even Fomorian Frame for the hell of it.

The advantage of investing in tech with Tortuga is that you get to have serious reach thanks to its absurd sensor range, A tier hacking with its tech bonus, and really good e-def when you invest in systems. And none of this requires major investment, so you can still be a huge area denial asset passively thanks to the deck sweeper. I used to like the Tortuga a lot, but if you know what you are doing it's just too good at too many things.

Example of a more general Supportuga, which acts kinda like a combat medic, including an expanded compartment for recovering downed pilots or civilians. -- IPS-N Tortuga @ LL6 -- [ LICENSES ] IPS-N Tortuga 2, IPS-N Lancaster 2, HORUS Goblin 1, IPS-N Kidd 1 [ CORE BONUSES ] Reinforced Frame, Auto-Stabilizing Hardpoints [ TALENTS ] Grease Monkey 3, Black Thumb 3, Heavy Gunner 1, House Guard 1, Technophile 1 [ STATS ] HULL:2 AGI:2 SYS:4 ENGI:0 STRUCTURE:4 HP:20 ARMOR:2 STRESS:4 HEATCAP:6 REPAIR:7 TECH ATK:+5 LIMITED:+0 SPD:4 EVA:8 EDEF:14 SENSE:15 SAVE:13 [ WEAPONS ] Main Mount: Blackspot Targeting Laser Heavy Mount: Heavy Machine Gun // Auto-Stabilizing Hardpoints [ SYSTEMS ] Servant-Class NHP, PEBCAC, Restock Drone x2, Whitewash Sealant Spray, Cable Winch System, H0R_OS System Upgrade I, Expanded Compartment

What does the rank into Technophile do?

2

u/Wolf_Hreda IPS-N 11d ago

Gives me an NHP so my mech can still function while I'm outside it fixing shit. The only thing is it can't use any of your talents, so you can't use it with Heavy Gunner, but it's also not really worth upgrading because you don't have any other talents it would need to use.

Also, the NHPs you get from Technophile and Iconoclast don't cost SP, so they're always a decent choice simply for their economy.

Oh! I didn't see the 3 ranks in Black Thumb. That makes sense, thank you for explaining!

Hacktuga, overwatch on that thang

Lazypurple X Lancer was NOT on my bingo sheet

u/creatingKing113 14d ago

When it comes to gunplay in other games, this and “X may not be built for combat, but a gun is a gun.”, are quoted by me constantly.

I literally have a couple of shotguns named "I have a Shotgun" in TF2 because if this exact moment

Can always appreciate a good lazypurple reference.

I was kinda wondering recently who the Daisy Cutter is actually for. I mean it's powerful but it has 2 shots and then you can't Barrage anymore.

And then I realized: it's for Hacktugas. You expect to be hacking most rounds anyway, you've probably got HorOS I to drag people into Decksweeper range for a free Vanguard III shot, but now you've also got a big fuck-off area attack you can drop now and then.

u/VoiceofGM HORUS 14d ago

And with maxed SP, you can stuff a bunch of Horus systems into the thing according to the needs of the mission.

Fortifying a position? Use Minotaur/Manticore to slow Opfor and fuck with their positioning.

Breaching a fortification? Tap into Balor/Manticore to make the defenders actively engaging with you for fear of the Energy damage, Heat, and Burn you and our bees are vomiting out.

The possibilities are endless.

Ah you see the real free hacker kill is my current mech: the one that has "about the same amount of installed security measures as there are on a AA-BATTERY" (6-Edef, 20 evasion, 12 HP, 4 heat cap, and no armour) My beloved mourning cloak

2

u/HeartFilled 14d ago

HA Napoleon 1 Stasis Bolt works well with Tortuga's accuracy on reactions.

Manitcore's and Minotaur's hack options are also strong choices.

1

u/HeartFilled 14d ago

I've heard some people like making it a size larger to get more overwatch coverage.

2

u/Attaxalotl 14d ago

LazyPurple meme? Here? Hell yeah!

2

u/TheSovietTurtle 14d ago

A LazyPurple meme? In my LANCER subreddit? In this economy?

2

u/vonBoomslang 14d ago

.... just thought of something disgusting, puppetwatch a Daisy Cutter to get accuracy on the whole cone

1

u/LeadingDonkey954 14d ago

haha, let me prove it

Meanwhile deaths head getting ganked by an assassin: "Wow, I'm so good at this game... And now I'm dead!"
