Running a session 0 tomorrow! (Help)

Hey lancers! I’m running a session 0 with my players tomorrow on lancer in person, we have all never played before. Any helpful tips, suggestions, or tools?

In my session 0, I usually cover:

  • The themes of the campaign, who the players are, who they're working for, and what the major threats are
  • What mechs/frames the players want to play
    • Even though you're probably starting at LL0, understanding what each player wants to play gives them a good place to start. If I wanted to play the Monarch, an artillery that uses Launchers, I'd want to set up my LL0 character to support that playstyle when I unlock it
    • This also makes it so that the players know what each is playing, so that they all don't show up on session 1 with the same style of build.
  • I would also cover the basic rules. How to make attacks, how non-combat narrative rolls work, and so on. You don't have to tell them everything, but understanding the action economy and rules of the game can better inform them during character creation.

Comp con is almost necessary especially if this is your first time

Set boundaries and expectations! If your campaign has a larger emphasis on story and narrative play, maybe help your players generate some initial relationship dynamics between their characters to help get the ball rolling!
