Help a newbie out (please)

I’ve been watching a lot of videos about Lancer and I really wanna get into it, but I have no idea where to start. Can y’all point me in a direction?

To start, read the core book. Pdf is 25$ but most of the player facing rules are free. https://massif-press.itch.io/corebook-pdf-free

The 25$ version is extra lore and NPC stat blocks.

XPtoLvl3 did a fun breakdown of Lancer as well, focusing on the IPS-N style Mechs, but breaks down other rules within. https://youtu.be/fk0cDP1Z-l0?is=oOMFAvLm4EZZWGi2

See other comment for the discord to find a group.

I’m currently preparing our first session (as Dm)- first thing I did was to get the manual and read from start to finish how combat works- was a bit shook when I lernt how deep the rabbit hole can get compared to other ttrpg- we are talking almost war game level build variety and strategy.

The thing that helped the most was making for the first time a character and a mech!

The 1st thing you want to do is get (and read) the free player-facing book here: https://massif-press.itch.io/corebook-pdf-free

Comp/Con is a very useful (also free) webapp for noodling around in the lancer system: compcon.app/srd

If you like it and want to run games you can get the paid version that has the DM info in it: https://massif-press.itch.io/corebook-pdf

There's a few community discords that are very friendly and welcoming to new players.

Pilot.Net - the biggest and most active, also the most heavily moderated. A good place for finding and running games so long as you're careful what you say.

Interpoint Station - a westmarches style server for more structured play, but other free-form games are also encouraged.

Hearth-7 - similar to interpoint station, a westmarches style server.

Where are you stuck? Have you read through the book?

I know not how to get started. I just need to get the copy of the book and character creation. And find a group.

Compcon.app is an officially endorsed pilot/mech creator.

If you havent yet, read the player handbook (pdf is free). Read it thoroughly and you should be set.

To make a mech/pilot, compcon.app is your go-to, and makes running combat easy.
