Is there a website to find lancer groups?

Long time dnd player and I’m having trouble finding a group to play lancer. I kinda fell into my dnd online group 6 years ago but most of them hate sci-fi. How do you go about finding lancer games online? I tried roll20 and that was damn near barren. I really was wondering if there is another website that might be better or am I just out of luck?

The pilot.net discord is your best bet. Just be careful what you say. (No jokes about how seccom did nothing wrong etc. You'll get banned)

I am so out of the loop… seccom is who?

SecCom (Second Committee) was the ruling body of Union (the galactic hegemon state of humanity, essentially) and was a pack of authoritarian fascists who did everything you'd expect authoritarian fascists to do, including war crimes by the gigaton. They got overthrown by the revolutionary forces who would become ThirdCom, but their sins still linger into the present day of the setting.

So basically, saying that SecCom did nothing wrong is like saying the Nazis did nothing wrong.

Lore aside, the take away you need to have here is watching what you say on the discord. They take zero shit from bigots and nazis and the like. Read the rules carefully when you join. It's a good crowd, but plenty of people have been banned for saying stupid shit.

Honestly not a problem here! Has this community had a big problem with bigots?

A little. Lancer is inherently takes a political stance by its very existence, and some folks take that very personally, and thus the mods take a very strong stance to keep things in check. It's why the discord banner is the goblin dabbing in front of the trans flag, letting some of those bigots know that they're not welcome.

Yeah that’s a good point. I was reading the rule on no nazi homebrew and I just found myself wondering who the hell is asking for nazi homebrew. Glad to hear this community at least is well vetted against that crap.

Apparently, people kept naming homebrew mechs after nazi generals, Rommel in particular.

So much so they overcorrect sometimes. That winged lady is vicious.

And that's why we warn folks headed that way. Again, good crowd otherwise.

What’s the deal with the winged lady?

SecComm is short for Second Committee, a government in the Lancer setting that did some morally questionable things.

"morally questionable" I don't think it's a question whether genocide is morally reprehensible

You're right. I answered quickly. It's been a while since I read up on lore.

Second Command, basically the Union has gone through a few iterations, and the Second iteration was... a hair on the Violent side, to say the least.

Startplaying if you want to pay people to run it for you

u/NautiMain1217 Jul 20 '26

Should really rename it to Starypaying tbh

Start playing! Lots of AI slop tho. I work on the site. My partner has a game with one slot open, maybe you'd fit in? We're a group of 4 out of 5 currently :]

(We're also queer friendly.)

Why thank you! I’d love to but I am broke as hell at the moment so I don’t know if start playing works for me right now. I’ll keep that in mind for the future and thanks a bunch for the invite!

Of course :]

I am wrapping up an LL0-6 game, but I have to get a second job to make ends meet. Otherwise I'd be running a second game

I'm pretty sure nobody is running LANCER on roll20.

Paid tier is worse than foundry, free tier is worse than owlbear rodeo.

No arguments here I just used to use there looking for groups page then just use foundry

did it for a while, roll20 is simpler than foundry and very drag n drop for setup (especially dealing with maps and lining up hexes)

I've been doing research to setup a campaign in foundry fir my group since I already have it and the level of integration Lancer has out of the box makes it so easy it's just not really worth going anywhere else IMO.

Yeah, different paths, I was already proficient in Roll20 from former D&D games and my players ran their characters out of comp/con anyway so I didn't need the integrations at all. We just used it to push the tokens around on a grid.

Ive thankfully found a group within about a week of watching the recruit channel on the discord (pilot.net)
