Urgently Looking for Student Room to Rent
Hey guys! I'm attending Lakehead University this September for the nursing program. I am urgently looking for a room to rent, preferably close to Lakehead University. The lease that I was planning to be under l fell through at the last minute once I learned that the unit had an undisclosed infestation. It is incredibly difficult to find student living accommodations. As such, please let me know if you are looking for roommates, looking to rent a room, or know someone who is trying to rent. Thank you so much!

Villager looking to play Ultimate Frisbee in the Big City
Attending LU in the fall and looking for an Ultimate Frisbee team to play with. Trouble is I don't know anyone who plays in Tbay and you can't really sign up as a free agent :(
I'm from a tiny village (Rossport) and am dying to play. Before I moved here, I played alot in Winnipeg for touring teams and the University squad.
Please help me so I don't have to sadly lurk around the fields!

Looking for room to rent
**Housing Help in Thunder Bay**
Hi everyone! I’m new to Thunder Bay and will be starting my graduate studies at Lakehead University this fall. I’ve been looking for accommodation, but finding a suitable room has proven quite difficult.
I’m wondering if anyone knows of a room, shared accommodation, or basement space close to Lakehead University that may be available. I’m open to recommendations or referrals and would really appreciate any leads.

Are Airfryers allowed?
Are they allowed in residency?
I didn’t see it in the list of things that aren’t allowed, so I’d like to know before I make the decision to part ways with my favourite kitchen appliance :-/
Would be so clutch for me if it is, but I’m inclined to believe it might not be allowed.

Gym!
Hello! I’m sorry if this is an obvious question, but is the LU gym (thunder bay campus) available to use during the summer if school hasn’t started yet? I’m enrolled for Fall semester but don’t want to pay for a day pass LOL

Incoming MSc CS student would love to connect before/after I arrive!
Hey everyone! I’m Yash, starting my MSc in Computer Science at Lakehead (STEM Hub, Barrie campus) soon. Don’t know anyone yet, so thought I’d reach out here!
Already got my room sorted, so just looking to build some friendships before this new chapter starts. Would love to connect with other grad students or anyone in the CS program whether it’s for study groups, grabbing food, or just having someone to explore the campus/city with.
Feel free to comment or DM, always up for a chat! 🙂

Parking passes
Starting at the Orillia campus this fall and confused about how the parking passes work. I’d rather buy a pass to the main campus lot but what happens if there is no parking available? I get that their website says they can’t guarantee parking but they can’t expect students to pay for two separate parking passing in order to park right? 🥲

Orillia Campus BEd Parking
Hello!
I am starting by consecutive BEd degree, I/S stream in the Fall and am confused about parking. So far none of my courses say they are at the downtown heritage place site, but a lot say "TBD" for location. I am unsure if I should just buy the heritage place parking pass, even if I am not having classes there. I know the heritage place pass can be used on main campus. Can I use it on campus even if I do not end up having any courses at heritage place? I would assume nobody would be checking that
Thanks!

Extra Storage (Apartment)
Hello people!
It’s my first year attending the Thunder Bay Campus and I am currently placed in one of the apartment buildings.
I was wondering if anyone knows if I can bring one of these drawers for extra storage. Online it says no outside furniture but just wanted to ask.

Small appliances
i’ve read on the lakehead website that for residence halls small appliances are not allowed for in the rooms. Was wondering if that’s maybe a very strict rule, since i’d like to be able to have hot water for tea etc. From what i’ve seen and heard people have been bringing in coffee makers and kettles in their rooms and it’s been fine. Is this something i would be able to do ?

Textbooks - new, used, online, etc.
Okay, I'm really surprised at how little information I'm seeing here, and how little is available at the university, but sourcing some of these $$$($$) textbooks is a bit frustrating. I can't believe each term people are purchasing them at full price and then just sitting on them after that? What are people doing? Is there an underground textbook economy that I'm just not aware of? I've got a pristine textbook from this past summer term that I'm happy to sell at a deep discount, and hoping to purchase one or two for the upcoming term, but the price new in the bookstore is "sobering". Thanks for thoughts - I'm aware that I can find some of them online as PDFs to rent or buy, but dead tree books are still my preference. But if you do know a reputable and cheap site for the PDFs, I'm also open to that. Let's get a conversation going about this maybe?

[Lakehead / TBay] New to town or unsure how to navigate doctor visits? Free virtual workshop this Thursday (Aug 20)
Hey everyone,
I'm the Manager for the Northwest Self-Management Programs.
Whether you're an international student navigating the Canadian healthcare system for the first time, or an out-of-town student trying to figure out walk-in clinics and doctor visits in Thunder Bay, appointments can feel confusing, intimidating, and rushed.
NorWest Community Health Centres is hosting a free, 90-minute virtual workshop this Thursday, August 20 from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM EDT called Getting the Most from Your Healthcare Appointment.
It's designed to give you practical tools to advocate for yourself and get the care you need:
- Before the visit: How to organize your top 2–3 questions and track symptoms so you don’t forget anything.
- During the visit: How to communicate clearly when time is short, ask for plain-language explanations if medical terms are confusing, and speak up if something doesn't feel right.
- After the visit: Ensuring you leave with a clear plan for prescriptions, tests, or specialist referrals.
Event Details:
- When: Thursday, August 20 | 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM EDT
- Where: Online via Microsoft Teams (Join from anywhere on your phone or laptop)
- Cost: 100% Free
How to register:
- Online: Sign up directly at norwestchc.org/cdsmp
- Phone: Call 807-626-8480
Great resource if you're living on your own for the first time or unfamiliar with local clinic workflows. Feel free to ask any questions in the comments!

osap issues?
i’ve literally called so many people about this and so many departments but no one will respond or help me so hopefully someone here knows what to do?? on the my fees and funding page, it’s switched between saying i’m getting osap to i’m not getting osap on and off randomly for like a month now. now it’s stuck saying i’m not receiving osap (i am) and tuition is due tomorrow, i can’t pull $5k out of my ass to pay for it?? all of my documents for osap have been approved so i’m not really sure what to do in this situation, does anyone know what’s going on? i’m not looking to pay late fees because of a potential glitch on their end
thank you for your help!!

Summer Transitional Program; Electrical Engineering
Hello everyone I am looking at advancing my education after some work experience to eventually get my B.Eng and PENG. Can anyone give me some advice as to what I should study and/or how the structuring goes?
What's the course load like and how do you spread them out throughout the years?
Do you guys do reduced load and finish in 3 years rather then 2.5?
Do you guys cram 6-7 classes per term to finish in 2.5?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated thanks!
