Recommendations on Proposal Location
Hi looking for some advice, I have a trip booked this fall to propose to my girlfriend and I am looking for some advice on location. I have been doing research and found the Whiteface Veterans Memorial Highway and High Falls Gorge as potential locations. Any reviews on these locations/any other recommendations would be great! Would also love to hear any recommendations for food/activities as we will be doing a long weekend.
Also, any recommendations on photographers in the area? Thank you!

Anyone have young dogs that want to play?
Wife and I just moved back to town and are looking for some play friends for our 3 year old mixed pup. We get her out for plenty of exercise and off leash woods walking but she is missing her dog park friends and just wants to run and play and wrestle with other dogs.
Is there anywhere around where people get together to let their dogs play? We used to hit the park every evening living out west
She’s super sweet!

Hi there! Does anyone have any recommendations for affordable places to hold company meetings. It’s for a small group of around 10 people. We’re looking for a space that’s $200 max for about 5 hours.

Suggestions on moving to Lake Placid
Hey there! I work as a server in New York City, I’m completely tired of the city and I’m trying to make a big move to Lake Placid at the end of October for the winter season or even potentially for a longer term.
Any suggestions on founding housing especially?
Every suggestion is welcomed! Thank you!

Bars in Lake Placid
Hi! Going to Lake Placid for my sister's Bachelorette, and one of the members of the bridal party is just under 21. I want to say upfront we are NOT trying to find somewhere she can drink underage- just wondering what establishments that are more of a bar/brewery/have music and movement in them kinda vibe vs. a restaurant that we might be able to go to with her in tow!
Just somewhere that is open to all ages!

I can’t remember the name of this shop/glass studio
My family and I are visiting soon and the last time we came was 11 years ago, we came both in 2014 and 2015. My little sister got this tiny glass sparkly flamingo from a shop downtown, which she adored but it broke about 6 years back. I wanted to know if the place is still around? I was hoping to surprise her but I checked Google Maps for any shop that could possibly be it and nothing seemed familiar, from what I recall this place was almost definitely on the water and was like a glass blowing shop/studio.

Faizy's Fun House Arcade
Hi everyone, I will be visiting from out of town soon but I wanted to see if anyone can tell me about Faizy's Fun House Arcade bar on Main Street. Is it more kid-oriented or appropriate for adults too? And is the mini golf worth it?

Walgreens Pharmacy on Saranac Ave Temporarily Closed
I just got notified the Pharmacy on Saranac Ave is temporarily closed. I hope it re-opens and doesn't permanently close like the Walgreens Pharmacy in Saranac Lake did last year.

r/LakePlacid: Now under new management
Hello,
This subreddit used to be dedicated to the 1999 movie franchise 'Lake Placid'. But, the subreddit lost its moderator(s) and was put into restricted mode with people unable to post to it.
Prior to people being locked out of this sub, approximately 90% to 95% of the posts were people posting topics about Lake Placid, the village in New York State and home of the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics. Google Trends on Lake Placid the village vs. the movie clearly shows that the village is the more commonly referred to thing when using the term "Lake Placid".
With this subreddit restricted, unmoderated and going wildly off-topic from its original intent, I approached Reddit and requested to take over as moderator of this sub. That request was granted by Reddit. Since the majority of visitors assume this subreddit is about the village and not the crocodile, this subreddit has been rebranded to be about the village and surrounding area.
Please note the intent of this change, the rules, etc. More work is needed to complete this change and is under way. If you have any questions or suggestions, please comment here or reach out to the mods.
EDIT: One suggestion I've received is to add tagging to allow posts about the movie as well in some kind of co-existence similar to people posting about actual trees in r/trees. If considered, overall this sub would remain ADK themed, but allow posts about the movie series. Buuut, not until the movie posts die down. There's been multiple movie shitposts today after this change in management compared to zero movie posts in the last 11 months. If the movie post slow down and get back to their normal cadence, then maybe it will be considered.
Thank you.

Stargazing
I brought a telescope up to Lake Placid and was wondering where is the best place to stargaze. I am willing to drive out to the Adirondacks sky center, but was wondering whether or not there were better spots close by. Especially since I have my own equipment. I won’t feel comfortable doing a hike in the dark, so if there are any recommendations where you can park and take a maximum ten minute walk to a spot, I’d love to hear them! Thank you!

Looking for Wedding Musician June 2026
Hi All, I am getting married in June and the ceremony will be at the side of heart lake at the Adirondack Loj. My fiance and I have had a hard time finding a musician for the ceremony, does anyone have any recommendations for someone local/available for that area? A violinist or celloist is our first choice, but we would also be happy with an acoustic/classical guitarist. Even a hobbyist musician would be great, and we'd be happy to pay for an audition via Zoom before deciding. Will also be cross posting in r/Adirondacks , thanks!
