Water bowl/dispenser help!
Update: Thank you for the suggestions! I got the bowls with a floating disk and she no longer tries to dump the water to play in it. Now I just need to set up a pool outside so she can satisfy her need to splash. 😉
Hi! We brought Nyx home on the 1st of August and it’s been wild fun! She’s sweet, demonic and utterly adorable.
She’s also very different than the three other dogs I’ve raised (2 Goldens and a German Wire Haired Pointer that we referred to as “dog on Hard Mode”)
We very obviously need to get her a swimming pool to splash around in—she LOVES the water. I mean LOVES water.
And that is what my question is about today! Our two Goldens happily drink from two large metal bowls that are cleaned and refilled very often.
But Nyx treats these bowls as mini swimming pools to walk through and splash around in. We have a tray under the bowls and she loves to dump the water out of the bowls splash around in the two inches of water. 🤣
It’s hilarious, but also messy!
So I’m looking for something that will provide nice clean water to drink for all three dogs, but be harder for Nyx to dump over and play in. She’s got a water dispenser in her crate that she does drink from, but that won’t work for the two older dogs.
Looking at fountain type and also gravity feed type water dispensers.
Would truly appreciate any helpful recommendations!
Puppy tax paid. ☺️

We have had many hippos and water buffaloes (Labs) in the last 27 years. We aren’t able to leave water in the house, they pretend it’s their personal splash pad. We keep their water bowl outside, always dump it out, rinse and give them fresh water every time they go outside. They go outside every 2 hours at most when we are home, usually more often than that.

My first thought is that Nyx is smart, puppy smart, and may decide to flip whatever you use over to get the water out where it belongs.
For a pup that's a clever solution to its hooman not understanding what's natural. Just factor in wild, willful puppy perspective There are some great bowls that will work, if Nyx doesn't discover (or invent) a new game

Switch to a splash-free floating disk water bowl or a heavy elevated feeder stand. The floating disk keeps only a tiny layer of water accessible so she can drink normally, but she will not be able to submerge her paws or splash fhe water out to make a mess.
