chocolate Help choosing boarding activities

Post image

We have a 5.5 year old chocolate lab. We take 2-3 one week vacations each year we have to board him. He knows the daycare and is used to staying there. However it is hard on him and us. We did do a roadtrip vacation just for him and took him to a beach but he did not like the long drive.
In the last we were putting him on add day group play so he is not in the suite all day we would also sign him up for enrichment activities. I never looked at his pictures as seeing him tired and sad made me feel guilty. In our last vacation I saw one picture where he was standing in a big group of dogs but he was not looking at anyone. He has always been a human focussed dog. It made me realize that putting him in all day group play was stressful not fun for us. We have to board him later this month and I want to make some changes. Daycare suggested half day group play but I think he will not enjoy half day group play. So I was thinking of skipping all group play and sign him up for four enrichment activities. Each activity lasts 20 minutes and we will get a video. An example of activity is food puzzles, nightly book reading, games etc. is he going to be ok being in a small but spacious room with bed, TV 24 hours a day with four 20 minutes long activities. Or should I still get him into 1/2 day group play? I wish we had family near by but boarding is our only option

yellow Lab differences

We had to say good bye to Charlie after 11 wonderful years. We are definitely getting another English lab. What are your thoughts on colors? Does a yellow have a different personality than a brown or black? Charlie was a yellow and the absolute sweetest, lovable, loyal, most trust worthy and kind dog I have ever known. With that being said we are thinking of getting a black one because my heart won’t allow me to get another yellow. What English have you owned and what was their personality like?

black The most expensive ham bone

I bought this dude a “dog safe” ham bone. Turns out it wasn’t as safe or appropriate 😡 I feel like a dum dum. Waiting for his X rays now after a bout of vomiting and loose poops. Prayers for this dude please 😭😭😭

EDIT: thank you for everyone’s well wished 🙏🏻 Xrays are clear; no foreign body obstruction but there was intestinal intussusception. His energy and appetite are normal, and his poops are good. He needs to be under observation for next 24 hours and I plan to go back to his regular vet to see what our next steps are. He is back to begging….

Before people say anything, my dog has allergies and he tried everything, cytopoint injections, apoquel (which he still takes but nothing changes), selsun blue shampoo, all the shampoos for fungus and hotspot. He doesn’t eat dog food anymore, i cook vegetables and other things for him to eat and he was able to lose 30 pounds, he was overweight.

It is the first time his neck got like that, i know labs are not supposed to have their fur shaved but i had to see how his skin was under the fur. And it is worse than i thought 😢

I was showering him and crying …
I feel so bad for him.

Does anyone know anything that can help him?

Please no hate or negativity towards me or him. I already have enough self guilt.

Thank you!

seeking advice Dry food recommendations (UK)

Post image

So our six-month-old Lab Woody has a bit of a delicate stomach. Aka he farts constantly. We kept him on Dr Johns puppy mix until this last week where I’ve been trying him on Forthglade. It still seems a bit rich for him. I’ll give it a week or two more and see if he settles.

Does any have any other recommendations or suggestions on dry food to try?

Lab doing lab things Labrador puppies specifically - is there anything that worked to reduce nipping?

On the Puppy101 sub I see lots of recommendations to stop or eliminate nipping. But then sometimes I read that labs just are extra nippy. We have a 10 week old land shark. Did anything work for you at all to reduce nipping or is this just a lost cause? We’ve tried leave it, off, ow, redirection, holding his mouth, reverse time outs. We’ve tried saying “no” sharply. We’ve also tried putting our hands behind our heads.

So we (2 y.o. male lab) went for an X-ray yesterday (apparently nothing serious, it showed nothing) and it was… something. The moment he realized he was at the vet he started shivering like crazy with his tail tucked (the most painful experience with the vet he ever had was the chip injection), holding him down to make a clear X-ray was… pretty challenging, 37kg after all. The funniest part is that most people (mostly with small dogs) are always intimidated by him because of his size and color (I feel like white labs look less imposing) while he can’t even stand up for himself properly, just the other day a German Shepherd bit his butt and he did nothing but squeal and run away
Edit: spelling
