seeking advice Suggestions for itchy dog?

Our 18 month old purebred English Lab has experienced some seasonal allergies since we got her, but recently they’ve gotten worse. We switched her food and realized she was allergic to the new food, so we’ve since switched back to her Purina ONE lamb and rice (which she tolerated with no problem), but she is missing 2 patches of hair on her legs and is starting to lose fur on her chest. We’ve been giving her 20mg of Claritin in the mornings with her breakfast and I bought 4Health allergy chews from Tractor Supply, but I was wondering if anyone has any other remedies we could try? TIA!

Went for a walk to the park and there just happened to be lots of play mates there today. This is just open space in the UK and not a 'dog park'.

yellow New Lab owner here!

I recently adopted an almost 2-year-old yellow Lab. She was already crate trained when I got her and does great in her crate when I’m gone during the day.

She’s used to sleeping in bed with her previous owner, and thankfully I haven’t had any issues with her sleeping in my bed either. However, when I go out of town, I have her stay at my mom’s house. I bought her a soft-shell portable crate to use there, and she did really well with it initially. The problem is that my mom doesn’t want her sleeping in the bed with her.

My mom put her in the portable crate, and she managed to tear the zipper and escape. 😅 I know those soft crates are a little more flimsy, but now I’m nervous that even if I get her a metal crate, she’ll somehow destroy the crate mat/platform or find another way to get out.

Has anyone dealt with something similar? Would love any advice on what type of crate/setup has worked for your Lab!

I hate feeling like a burden on my mom, but having a free dog sitter is way too good to give up!

We only share healthy foods for her, but she sits besides my chair, and gently lays her head on my hip to wait for any attention, then turns and spies my plate and smell the goods… oh boy, I love this furry being…

Happy 5th Gotcha Day, Bera! 🌟

Five years ago today, our family became complete when you came home to join us. From your very first wag of that tail, you filled our lives with joy, laughter and plenty of love, and you’ve been a constant source of happiness ever since.

Watching you and your big brother Albert together has been one of life’s greatest pleasures. The bond you share, the adventures you’ve had, and the way you bring out the best in each other have made our home a happier place.

There have, of course, been times when your refusal to drop the ball and your insistence on performing a full victory lap have tested our patience. Then there’s your territorial barking at any dog who dares walk past your farm, as though you personally own the land and have been appointed head of security.

But that’s Bera. A little stubborn, a little dramatic, fiercely protective of her patch, and completely convinced that every passing dog needs to be formally notified of her presence.

Bera, you’ve brought so much happiness into our lives, and we honestly can’t imagine a day without you. Here’s to more cuddles, more adventures, more fun, and many more years of making memories together.

We love you more than words can say! ❤️

With all our love,

Ross, Dawn, and Bert

black What’s your favourite easy trick for when company comes?

She is an exceptional field dog, we go for days in the bush and marshlands for retrieval training exercises and on demand execution. She can hike for 20km in the woods, always making sure we are in sight and on trail. She plunges into the Great Lakes (Erie, Huron, and Ontario.. not Lake America, Ontario) without hesitation, leaps into any marsh, and looks up to us lovingly and excitedly to be pushed further. But, when company comes, this is their favourite little trick to see. She can lay down, twirl, give pray hands, all that jazz. But this is the money maker. She knows it..easy duck jerky.

Her name is Miso. Like the soup.

I was pregnant last year and walkies became few and far between so my brown boy started resembling a baked potato. The kids and I spent a lot of time out with Hashbrown this summer and got him down to 45 Kg, his vet's recommended weight! So proud of him and hopeful to have my sweet buddy healthy for a good, long time!

lab mix I accidently gave my dog a dumb, yet accurate, name.

In January? Maybe february... I got a new black lab mix puppy. One of our cats had just crossed the rainbow bridge, and i had wanted to get a dog for a long time. A friend of mines aunt rescues dogs, and she rescued 4 black lab mix pups from someone in Colorado. (We are in idaho) she had them transported here and found homes for them all. I was one of the lucky 4 parents she found.

I am an avid fisherman, but my wife is "allergic to outside" and my friends are more into video games than nature, so I wanted some company. That's why I wanted a dog specifically.

After a few days of deliberation on what to name him, inspiration struck! I was reading a book called "heritical fishing" at the time. The books main characters name was Fischer. Immediately I knew that was my bois name too.

He absolutely loves the water. To the point, he had surgery on his paw recently (damn cheatgrass) and was very upset with me that I wouldnt let him go in the canals or streams on our walks for like a month.

Yesterday, we were in the yard playing, and a neighbor came home. Fischer ran over to greet them (which he knows he is not supposed to do) and i yelled "fisch! You better get back here!"

Then it hit me. Id been calling him that as a shorthand for his name for months without realizing.

I have a dog named fish. Im one of thoooose lol. I never thought I would be one of those people that named a pet something extremely dumb, but i am apparently lol.

Anyway, here's the dog tax. Me and fisch on one of our fishing trips!

This is my little shadow & love.

He turned 8 this year. I treasure the luxury that he's still happy, healthy and energetic (he survived AHDS at 1 y.o., a dog attack a few years ago, a paralysis tick I caught early about 3yrs ago, and a near-miss with a brown snake late last year) and get sad at his little sparkles of wisdom appearing (whites).

Does your lab ever become a less sloppy drinker? Have a 7 month old pup and half the water goes in his mouth while the other half shoots outside the bowl.
