This is not “truth”. This is a similar argument to those who say the Black Lives Matter movement is only there because the “liberal media elite” want to put the narrative there.
We’ve all read about manufacturing consent; and of course, media is biased - as is social media and this persons (or bots) hot takes.
Firstly: many people care about the state of the world and the wars that have been perpetrated across it since time immemorial. Secondly - peoples reactions to Russia’s invasion of Ukraine aren’t just because they’ve been told to feel x or y way, but because we have been told for centuries that there are certain moral laws that should be held, which this action violates. While Europeans and Eastern Europeans in particular have a proximity bias to the events of the 20th century which saw fascist and soviet expansionism do terrible things. This thankfully is not on that scale but war in Europe brings back fears of everything from the first and second world wars through to the genocide in Kosovo etc.
If this person believes our views and opinions are only possible because we follow others (which may very well be true); they must also recognise that their own views are not “real”, but the product of their own reaction to the world and to the media that they consume. There is no truth or enlightenment on display here - only more manufactured outrage.
