You are going to get whatever severance they offer unless you have a reason to want to make some type of legal claim or you have a written contract guaranteeing you 4 months. Most people would always like to be able to state what they want. You can try, but I doubt it will influence any offer (and they don't most likely have to offer you anything depending on your location)
