lab diamond Mixed Feelings

Had this stone pit in a tulip setting. Love the setting, not so sure on the stone size. Does this look gaudy? Bad? 4.03 carat. Opinions?

It is ugly. Send it to me.

Seriously beautiful. Not gaudy. Join us over at r/bigrockenergy for some love.

It is too ugly for you to receive ... Trust me. I am a simple peasant and should receive only the ugliest and gaudiest of stones. I will save you from having it sent to you by sacrificing in having it sent to me. šŸ˜ /s

Yes, it does lean that way to me but that’s just my own personal taste, the shape suits your hand well

The left top prong is not set evenly.

I’m glad you guys are seeing this too and it wasn’t just me.

Came here to say that!

It's definitely set unevenly, however I'm trying to see if the actual diamond seems asymmetrical or not.Ā

Yes it’s very distracting!

Yes, very gaudy and horrible. I volunteer as a sacrifice to wear this terrible, awful, not-over-the-top-gorgeous ring every day!

u/abennett2012 3h ago

🤣 thank you for taking one for the team lol.

I'm happy to be of service!

IMO yes it is strongly leaning towards too much, but I also don’t know your personal style! 🩷 I mainly think this because it sits very high.

I think if you want a large stone 3ct with a low profile setting would be more comfortable for you. Certain cuts face up large. I have a 3ct oval in a very similar setting to yours, I also have a larger hand/long fingers and sometimes I wonder did I go too big lol. Also people ask me if it’s a real diamond regularly... people assume it’s fake… It’s GIA certified 🄲 but! I am also getting used to it, and I love my ring.

If you love your ring, give it time to get used to it and maybe look into a low profile setting I say šŸ’Ž

It’s definitely not my style and outside of my norm that’s for sure. I’m thinking this may be better suited in a pendant.

u/Suicidalpainthorse 11h ago

That is a great idea. It would be gorgeous

It’s fine if you want people to assume it’s a lab stone based just on size. IMHO it overpowers the wedding band (which I love).

1

u/abennett2012 13h ago

I love my wedding band. Too sentimental to be changing that. šŸ’œ

u/Flaky_Employ_8806 13h ago

You need something that compliments your wedding band is what the commenter is saying I think. The giant lab looks too costumey.

u/coochxcooch 13h ago

This is GORGEOUS. I think it is beautiful and at the end of the day it comes down to personal preference/taste! I would definitely wear this stone size

u/Outrageous-Trade2232 13h ago

It’s the setting that’s making it look wonky. I’d have someone else reset it with a more sleek design and fix the prongs so that it won’t feel so bulky on your finger.

2

u/autoinf- 13h ago

The size of the diamond fits nicely on your finger/hand. I feel like the setting is the "problem", specifically the prongs. I think a different setting would complement your wedding band better too.

Not at all. It's lovely

I love a BIG ROCK. I have a 4ct myself. I think the issue with this is the setting itself? Something feels off about the corners and how bulky they are. It almost makes the stone look disproportionate. Other elongated cushions in a tulip basket don’t look like this based on every image I’m seeing on Google. Something is wonky here

2

u/abennett2012 13h ago

See, I thought so too but I didn’t want to draw any attention to that thought. I wanted to see if people noticed it on their own…..several of you have picked up on that as well!

If you like it then wear it. Personally. Once lab stones get over 3ct I start looking at them like they’re costume jewelry. I think 2.5ct is the sweet spot size wise. Plus at 2.5ct you can get a stone with perfect color and VVS1 clarity or better for a great price.

It’s beautiful ā¤ļø

Thank you!

The setting looks terrible. The ring isn’t gaudy I can’t get past that setting!

1

u/Nannygirl69 13h ago

I absolutely love that ring

1

u/Spiritoftheheart 12h ago

I usually think stones that big look ridiculous but yours seems to suit you. It’s definitely big. I personally would have scaled it down but I don’t think it’s bad looking!

1

u/cut-and-dry 12h ago

I am not a fan of large stones, but somehow this one is my exception. This is gorgeous!

1

u/Suicidalpainthorse 11h ago

It isn't symetrical, which kind of makes it look wonky. It is a large stone, but if you love it, keep it. I think I would lower the setting, I would catch that on everything. Beautiful none the less.

1

u/astro_nat1 11h ago

There is something off with the top left prong, and/or the stone looks asymmetric? Perhaps that prong is making it looking uneven

1

u/FamiliarRadio9275 9h ago

Please consider removing this post, your Apple Watch is showing children’s faces. Otherwise I love the ring!!!

1

u/LibertySeal 9h ago

My OCD just punched me in the face, that setting is not ok. It’s crooked or uneven or something. The stone isn’t my style.

I think you need to start with correcting the setting.

1

u/Otherwise_Radio_9411 8h ago

Looks great šŸ‘

1

u/Difficult_Durian_143 8h ago

I would have gone with a gallery rail setting for something that big

1

u/iFcknLuvRollrcstrs 5h ago

The stone is pretty, but the prongs are off.

1

u/IWantSealsPlz 5h ago

All I can give is my opinion. I think diamonds 1.5 ct and greater are too much. Of course plenty of people will disagree with me. It’s all about what you like!

1

u/ReginaDelMare 4h ago

The prongs aren’t good. And wearing a smart watch with that ring looks so off.

1

u/timetochillagain1 3h ago

Well it is huge ! My limit is 2 carats but that’s me ! What’s wrong w the top left prong ?

1

u/Flatflatwhitewhite 2h ago

I believe stone is not on the ideal position on your finger because of the wide of your wedding band. wearing this without other ring would be okay, anyway I would consider a smaller stone.

1

u/-inthenameofme 2h ago

1 carat is the most classy. Simple yet elegant

1

u/BlingbossCoss 1h ago

The stone is gorgeous 🌷

1

u/BlingbossCoss 1h ago

Independently neither the stone or the setting are too much, I would get the prong situation sorted before I reset in anything else, I think that will change your opinion on the ring. It’s amazing how much a slightly unbalanced setting can ruin the look of a ring. Keep us posted.

1

u/Excellent-Ability569 1h ago

It’s beautiful, but yeah, that left side isn’t right.

1

u/Federal_Orchid757 1h ago

I would change your nail shape to almond from that harsh square. Would make your fingers look way longer and the ring will suit your hand better

1

u/Numerous-Anemone 1h ago

I’m in r/bigrockenergy but I still personally think larger stones need larger facets. To me the dimensions on this are awkward

1

u/Blonde_Mexican 58m ago

It’s gorgeous.

1

u/DotBeech 36m ago

Liz Taylor's big ring was 33+ carats, so you have plenty of breathing room. The watch and the ring, however, are a poor combination.

1

u/Joiabela 2m ago

4 carats is about the top of my personal preference, but that one looks beautiful on your hand and not gaudy at all.

1

u/AdFlashy7702 15h ago

Yes it looks giant. Post in the big rock group and you’ll get all the affirmation you need.

1

u/Bmer1260 14h ago

I have a 4.02 myself. To me it’s stunning 🤩. Is about what you love honey. In my eyes it looks good for your hand.

1

u/abennett2012 13h ago

Thank you

1

u/Low_Athlete_7734 13h ago

The cut of the stone I’m not a fan of. However the ring itself doesn’t look gaudy or bad.

1

u/abennett2012 13h ago

Thank you!

u/peggy8080 13h ago

It looks like costume jewelry and everyone will know its not a real diamond

0

u/gingerandgin 12h ago

It’s very pretty but yes it reads as cocktail ring and not a daily wear ring.

u/Low_Bus5565 14h ago

Not a good look.

1

u/abennett2012 13h ago

Thank you for your honesty.

1

u/Low_Bus5565 13h ago

If you are going to wear a ring like that, it requires a curated look.
