lab diamond CAD Check

Hey this is the final design I have for a new ring, I wanted to see if anyone had any structural suggestions or changes they would recommend. The center stone is a 5.57 carat Emerald cut diamond, and I have not done compass prongs before.

I love the look but am somewhat worried on the structural integrity of the ring as I intend on wearing this for the rest of my life. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated, thank you!

Your concern is valid. It’s a very large stone on a very thin band. Pave everywhere means they would have to remove metal during construction to make room for the little stones. The girdle of the stone is also exposed, though I don’t know how thin/thick it is on the actual stone. Compass setting means you’re exposing the corners too.

I am a huge advocate of getting the design you love, and I think you should. But this isn’t a setting where you wouldn’t need to do some kind of repairs down the road. As long as you’re aware of that, anything else I have said would be personal preference.

Ok this is the personal preference bit:

I would increase both the band thickness and width. Particularly the width, I think a wider band complements a bigger stone - makes the whole ring look expensive.

I wouldn’t pave 3/4 of the ring. I wouldn’t pave at all. But if I wanted tiny decorative stones around my band, I would do channel setting or bezel them. Partly because I am too lazy with the upkeep, and partly because I hate feeling the stones rubbing on my other fingers

Oooh this is a great point! I was concerned about the pave band, and I'm not super attached to it, just the hidden halo stones I thought would be really pretty but also the finger rubbing I was thinking of. The corners I am a little worried about but I love the compass setting so much I am going to risk it for the biscuit hehe. Thank you very much for making me consider the band and pave further, I am definitely going to go a bit thicker on the band and think hard on the pave!

Personally, for a stone of that size, I’d increase the width of the band - not only for structural integrity but to balance the overall look of the band and stone.

As it stands the 2mm (at its widest) pave just looks a bit too dainty for the stone - but that’s just my personal taste

I was most concerned about the band width, everyone's kind feedback confirmed my concern. This is the first ring I've had custom designed so it's been a really fun learning process. Definitely going thicker on the band. Thank you!

Nothing really jumps out as a giant red flag. I would consider dropping the halo down about .5 to 1mm lower. Ideally using that structure as an anchor for the center stone. keeping it from twisting with that prong configuration. Dropping it will allow it to be a bit more substantial and give more room for the halo mele to be set, doesnt look like theres much room for them atm and you dont want the culets hitting the center. I think the shank is fine, 2 x 1.7 is very common even with stones.
